leaving at the end of your contract

why is it that o2 told me over and over again that i had to give 30 days notice to end my 18 month contract on time (which i think is outrageous as i signed up for 18 months, not 18 months and 30 days), then when i ask for my pac code i'm told that as soon as i use it the contract will end. why not just tell me that in the first place?

Your 30 days notice can be given before the end of the 18 months, so your contract need not exceed this if you don't want to.

When you use your PAC code, this signifies the end of the contract with your existing provider. If you do not use it within 30 days, the contract continues.

The 18 months for signed for is the minimum term, after which it turns into a 30 day rolling contract.

Getting a pac is only an option to end, as nickmack say above, if you don't use it the contract carries on.

Yes, I understand that you can call them 30 days prior to cancel, but why should you have to? You sign up for 18 months, after that you are out of contract and surely free to do as you please. Also, why did neither of the operators I spoke to tell me this during our heated discussions?

You didn't read the terms and conditions did you? You signed up for a minimum/ fixed term of 18 months, then onto a rolling contract.

Your right, you are free to do as you please, But do you want to take your number to another provider or do you simply want this account cancelled,

The networks wont cut you off dead at the end 18 month contract, Can you imagnine the complaints if they did,

If by your "heated discussions" you mean, you yelling at agents, perhaps it would be better to let them speak and expain the issue to you. That way you would understand the contract details a little better.

No yelling, just me questioning their excuses, and in the end asking for a pac code, only to be told that when I use the pac code my account would end immediately. Why not tell me about this option?

They won't offer info you don't ask for, not for any insidious reason but all call centre staff have to clear calls in X seconds. If not they get raked over the coals by their team leader (most of whom wouldn't know good CS from a hole in the head, but I digress).

Its not a good idea in that environment to start to offer unasked for advise. And, yes, I don't think it's right, but that the way call centres work. . .

Most likely you will still be charged 30 days though. So if you request a PAC on the 1st, use it on the 5th, and the number transfers on the 7th, your contract ENDS on the 7th (as in, you no longer have any service with them), but you are charged for the 30 days. If you give them 30 days notice with no PAC request, you are also charged for 30 days, but you can use the service for those 30 days, then your service will be cut off.

You were told, in the small print that you didn't read.
