Sadly some people (including children) with severe autism are in care homes. I am not sure if you are associating care homes with older people - they are available to younger people also.

You are taking this personally, you need to understand that the DM has to assess your son's condition against set criteria. Therefore they have to ask these difficult questions.
Personally yes i am .. This was a helpline there to pass information on not tell me about care homes and questioning my child's autism, he isn't a doctor

But all he did was pass information on! Would you rather he did not ask the question, and then gave you no award because they did not have the required information?

Because the DM asked the right questions, you have received the correct award. The process is horrid for all claimants, but without asking sensitive questions the claim cannot be assessed correctly.

What do you think they should have done instead, remembering that the care question had to be asked at some point?

    Write too me ?
Thomas was diagnosed with severe autism at aged 3 he hasn't changed since .. i had 6 months left of his old claim so therefore they had long enough to write too me, i do understand they have to ask and the GPs report was enough for them to award Thomas for 4 years until he's 16, quite simply as they said his needs are far more greater than a child of his age...... just think it wasn't down to a helpline too tell me i would have rather a letter to explain this too me

So is that it - you want to complain because they chose to ask you the question over the phone rather than in writing? Would it have been a less sensitive question in writing? It would still require the same response!

What do you want to achieve by complaining?

I have mental health problems. Therefore to assess my claim the DM needs to ask questions about suicidal tendencies, self harm, whether I have been sectioned etc. They are all pretty horrid questions. Are they any easier to answer in writing? No, they are not.

If your only problem is that they asked over the phone, then I do think you are overreacting.

I certainly do not think you understand the word 'Helpline' they are not too look at anything but simply pass on information to the 'relevant' person whom deals with the claims, so to sugest Thomas should be in a 'care home' isn't his place too say or even suggest really is it nor is it down to the Department of works or pensions too even suggest it ... ALL it stated on the letter was a Doctors report not the fact that my son should be in a care home !

Sorry, I think that you're overreacting about a throwaway comment. Pick your battles and save your energy for things that matter.
