Ignore what I just said, it did let me save something, not that it was anything I wanted though!!!

It's probably due to holding down the cursor down key, filling up the buffer before it had chance to display the jpg

    The suspense!

Closed - Thank you so much, I've just found a picture of my friend who died. One taken when we were on holiday.

I was just about to give up. Will plough through all of them now.

    Thaks a lot.

Glad you are getting somewhere - this is who deserves the thanks really http://dmitrybrant.com/about

I suggest you make at least 2 copies, on separate media, and check they are readable on another device or pc (DVD player etc). Flash drives, (even unencrypted ones) are easily corrupted if you pull them out without safely removing hardware, so copies on DVD's (which aren't prone to viruses) plus external hard disks/web backup are a better backup solution, and always keep the original on the c drive too, don't move, copy.

Syncing is also a little dangerous.

Also when you have time, do a scan with malwarebytes, some viruses can cause these symptoms, AVG doesn't catch everything.
