Don't breed your dog unless you have £1200 spare

Totally agree with what has been said.
At this moment in time, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to be deliberately breeding dogs. There are thousands of dogs up and down the country, desperately trying to find homes/dodge the blue liquid, and rescues trying to find responsible owners for them.
I own three rescue dogs, two of which must have cost their original owners a pretty sum of money (Dutch Shepherd, virtually unheard of in this country, and a Rough Collie (she was £800 back in 2004, i have the sale agreement for her) (hello Sarabe btw,...tis KB!:))
Anyone one here can have a look at a rescue website, and find a least one example of their chosen breed, be it staff, border collie, labradoodle, in fact I know of a rescue page that had a Briard on...a relatively new breed.
Health tests/responsible breeder doesnt mean anything and will not stop your dogs ending up in a shelter, bottom line people lie. Speak to a few breeders, and one or two will tell of horror stories, where dogs have been passed on 2/3 times, or ended up in a rescue centre.
Sad fact, rescues are no longer the home of sick/aggressive/unhealthy mutts.
The fact that these people bred their dog, with no thought to how they were going to pay for this possibilty is mind boggling, let alone could they find homes for them (Gumtree or Preloved anyone!) and the fact that these people have the gall to try to blame the vet, when the fault lies solely at their feet. Poor girl is all I can say.0 -
Not in Newcastle Cat & Dog Shelter(s) where most of the unwanted animals from Cramlington (where this couple are from) will end up.
I am from the Newcastle area too and regularly go to the dog shelter to donate and have a look at the dogs and last time I was there 75% of the dogs were staffies or other dog that had been used for intimidation. Most of the remaining 25% were greyhounds.
Its heartbreaking, and yet people wont see the light. People always comment I should have put my dog out for stud as he is a chihuahua in unusual colours but I think people should only breed if they know what they are doing and this couple should have had money put aside incase a cescerian was needed. I got my dog neutered and am 100% sure it was the best thing to do all round. a friend of mine has a wienerama and is always saying how she is going to breed her as soon as she has had her first season and she has no knowledge of it at all and wont listen when I try to tell her its not fair, her response is that her dog is gorgeous so who wouldnt want one. Sadly there are too many people that think like her. She also leaves the large dog in a bedsit for a minimum of 9 hours a day.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member No 2 :j

Wonder if that family would have allowed their child to be PTS for the sake of £1200 ...Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

These kind of stories break my heart. Staffs have a very bad rap because of the type of scrotes who typically get them for initimidation purposes and the backstreet breeders like those in the story.
Once my life is suitably in order I fully intend on taking on a rescue Staff (or Staff x) and making sure it has the best life a dog could wish for.qProud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
It was 12 hours before they seeked veterinary attention. There is a LOT more going on to this story than the picture that was painted in the paper. Prob can't comment more as all the information I saw about it was on a private Vets Only forum but the Veterinary Practice really should have been able to give their own view across rather than a harsh quote that makes them seem all about the money.
People are letting their selfish feelings towards dogs cloud their judgement.
The vet was asked for a consultation nothing more and when they took the action they did, they overstepped the mark.If they had felt a crime was being committed they could of phoned the police.
Why weren't the puppies saved if it wasn't about money?
Not that I'm taking the side of the pet owners either.0 -
I wouldn't class concern for the dog's welfare as selfish.
As far as I understand, the owners left it very late to consult the vet. By that time, the dog could well have been in too poor a condition to save. Also, I doubt very much that the Police would have intervened in such a case. A vet has a moral and professional obligation not to allow unnecessary suffering, which is surely what was going on here.
I'm sure there's more to this case than we know. Vets aren't perfect, by any means, but the owners were unprepared and put the dog and puppies at risk because of their actions.
I'm a bit confused by the "crime" you mention. What do you mean by this, please?0 -
The polie were actually called to the vets surgery, according to the article - "police were called to the surgery to calm the row" - the vets acted legally and properly here - however, if the family had allowed the dog to suffer, they would have been commiting a crime....0
