Broken lcd screen on LG Cookie KP500

Have only had mobile fone since Xmas.
Don't rememeber dropping or crushing fone but internal lcd screen broken.
Outer casing unmarked on either side.
Has this happened anyone else? Fix not covered under warranty by Carphonewarehouse:mad:
Been advised it will be £45 to fix. Not a happy bunny!!!!
Any helpful suggestions on what I can do?

    Accidental damage on your home contents insurance? Have you Googled to see if random screen cracking is a known fault with that handset?
