Now now thats not very moneysaving is it?:naughty::naughty::p

Depends if the OP is currently on a contract and eligible for an upgrade they may be able to get a free upgrade to a suitable phone. Or they may be able to pick up a second hand phone for a reasonable price.

It depends on how important it is to the OP to block the SMS messages I suppose.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Anyone else agree that its strange that this hasn't been implemented?

I wrote an application for Windows Mobile that runs as a service, intercepts SMS and can then perform some sort of action depending on the content found.

I used it for provisioning settings and writing to the registry, but the concept would work for SMS 'filtering' as well. I'm pretty sure there are applications like this available for most platforms.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer. Guess I'd better start scouring eBay for a vintage phone and hope it works with the current generation of sim cards.

    No use.

SMS is a part of the GSM control protocols. All GSM phones will have SMS capabilities to some extent so any phone that can use a sim card with have SMS recieve ability.

If your getting abusive or nusence texts contact your network, they should be ablke to help. If it's reverse billed SMS then you need to try and take it up with who bills you or PhonePay Plus who regulate them.

I use Kaspersky Mobile and can set certain numbers to be blocked, so after the first time they won't get thorugh. That's texts or calls. I think you can block certain words too.

It's not free, but if you look hard enough you can get it free...

So I need to "upgrade" to "downgrade" then!

I have about another 5 or 6 months to go of the contract. I don't like my current phone so a change would be good.

    Thanks all.

If you are able to upgrade to a new phone, please bear in mind that the network will add the remaining 5/6 months of the remaining contract onto your new contract.

Either go to the police about any inappropriate text messages you are getting or change your number. Blocking all text messages seems to be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Aside form you promoting piracy, KM only works on Windows Mobile and Symbian phones. Anything else (Android and IPhone are the obvious two smartphones) can't use this.

The OP's never said what phone she has, if it's not a smartphone then it probably has limited scope for running apps or software of any sort.
