Hi everyone,

We'll be shutting down the Forum on Friday morning (Friday 23rd April) between the hours of 9am and 11am while we make some changes to the server configuration. This is to allow us to roll out new forum features down the line. For now all you should notice is that the web address (URL) for some Forum pages may change.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Why does this have to be done during the day. This work should be scheduled for overnight.
  • "Why does this have to be done during the day. This work should be scheduled for overnight."

Because the IT Technicians work between 9 - 5.

Incorrect. IT Technicians are usually expected to work around business requirements. Trust me I work in IT and know how schedules are switched for business reasons.

Research shows that most MoneySaving Expert users access the site in the small hours of the morning and are therefore fast asleep between 9am and 11am. Therefore very considerate of MSE.

Why should the IT Technicians lose out on an evening with their family just so you can browse a forum for 2 hours on a Friday morning...

If the forum is down for 2 hours MSE will lose very little money. Most of their income comes from the site pages, therefore the forum isn't 'business critical'.

    Hi folks

    Please remember

    A. Real people have to do this its not a 24 hour operation
    B. Friday's are our least busy weekday
    C. While the site is busy 8am - 11pm within that range 9-11am is not particularly heavy (12-2 is and 7-9pm is)
    D. If we do it overnight, then the checking its all work and fixing any problems would take it into the next morning - when we have less support and a problem could mean te servers down the whole weekend.

Give my team a break - please :)

No I will be sleeping because I am working tonight in a 24 x 7 operation.

It never fails to amaze me how some people are so critical of this amazing site that we have & can access just about on a continual 24 hours basis.
At the end of the day we are lucky enough to have access to this site for free & yet some people still find it neccessary to be critical & unappreciative :(
