The Great 'Get Paid To Generate Energy' Hunt

Hi
Feeding either the Sharp or Mitsubishi 185W panels into Fronius's own software does not provide an option for 12 panels on the IG30, it does on the IG20 and it does if you feed 12 panels into SMA software for a Sunnyboy 2500 (which has similar specifications to the IG30).
You can download manufacturers' configuration software for free from the SMA website and the Fronius website and check which panel makes & combinations are applicable, Diehl seem to have software too ......
Hi
Yes, I've had a look at the Fronius software and saw what you've said about the 12 panels on the IG30 & IG20.
The Sunnyboy is not on offer, unfortunately. If you're being forced into a corner for a quick decision between the Diehl and the Fronius, as the specs are so similar it's really 'toss a coin' time, however Fronius seems to be a more recognised brand in the UK, but then again the Diehl has a sexier display, if that's relevant to you (If the inverter's in the loft you'll never look at it anyway !!).
I've seen more recommendations of Fronius inverters than Diehl, as you say they seem to be the better recognised brand.
I don't do lofts (fear of heights) and I'm told the Fronius will be compatible with the remote monitoring unit I've been offered, the Diehl isn't (I'm told).2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

So, I emailed all my details to Fronius this morning, panels, grid ref of my house, roof pitch, direction of roof etc .......
This is their response
First of all I'd like to thank you for your trust in Fronius and in its products.
That array is perfect for an IG20. There are not enough panels to run an IG30 so this would be a very poor choice - I presume this was a simple mistake when they were quoting the job for you.

Thought you'd get something like that from Fronius .... "There are not enough panels to run an IG30 so this would be a very poor choice" ..... I just can't understand how/why the installer came back to you with an IG30 option being able to produce 'Specific Annual Yield: 832.4 kWh/kWp' and still gave you the option to wait for an IG30 after the original query ...... I would suggest that if the IG30 had beed fitted you would have been very disappointed with the generation performance as it would certainly not have produced the quoted yield .....
Looks like you've settled on the IG20 then.... if it was me, as the installer made the mistake(s) and created all of the confusion I'd say that the least they could do is throw the Fronius remote display in FOC as a good will gesture .......
Good Luck ...."We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit. " ...... Aristotle0 -

Hi
Well I was leaning towards the IG20, partly because I've found far more recommendations for Fronius inverters, but the email reply from Fronius pretty much put the seal on the decision.
We've agreed this afternoon that I'll have the IG20.
And I've been promised the remote monitor (FOC) - save having to keep going up in the loft to take readings.
So, hopefully, this time next week the scaffolding will be up ready for an 8am start () the following Monday morning
Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly....
zeupater - thanks for your input, it's been a great help having someone to 'chew the fat' with on this :beer:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it goes. Presumably it's Mark Group doing the installation for e.on?0 -
Mark Group installed my Tesco 3.96kWp system on Monday and Tuesday of this week. I don't think they've ever heard of inverter manufacturers calculation software. The sparks on my install had been told to install 18 Sharp 220w panels to a sb3300 on a single string and seemed surprised when it was overvolting the inverter  A quick rewire to two strings sorted it but it seemed like a schoolboy error to me.0

You and me both - with Tesco, anyway. You've got me worried, now, though - same system, but I've no idea whether there are two strings or just the one. How can I tell?0 -
Well apart from the ac cable you'd obviously have 2 lots of dc cables connected
(and hopefully labeled as such)
Between 200-400v dc input would be correct for the sb3300, when on a single string the panels were giving around 600v :eek:0 -

Thanks - excuse my lack of knowledge! Have just checked, and there are two strings shown on the paperwork, and two cables into the inverter.
You make a good point, though.0 -
