I was trying to think of some more ways to make some money to help with this challenge whilst doing my physiotherapy tonight (not much else to think about for 30 minutes! ) and I remembered this story about a guy who set himself a challenge.

Basically he attempted to make a pound out of nothing (I think he found his pound in the street) and each week he tried to find a way of doubling this pound and after about 11 weeks I think it was, he had over £1,000.

The ways he did this varied. He bought stuff that he knew he could make a profit on, I remember that he put some money into some penny shares which I think he lost some on. There were some other ways that he made money but I can't remember all of them. He made the rule that he didn't earn the money in any way (ie he didn't go out and get himself another job or anything like that). It was quite interesting the way he did it.

I just thought that I might try something like this. I'm always getting stuff free from the internet in some shape or form (mainly freebies from this wonderful site!!) so I'm going to sell something that I got for nothing on Ebay probably and then try to make some more money with the money that I receive from the freebie and so on.

I think it would be a fun little challenge to go along side trying to clear this debt, it might even help :D . An example of what I'm going to do is that I once bought a Cherished Teddies ornament in a charity shop for £2.75. I then went and put it on Ebay and 7 days later I had sold it for £10.50!! Not a bad little profit there and that's the type of thing I'm going to do. I did the same thing with some Me to You bears that I found in a charity shop too.

I've also bought stuff from Ebay before and made a profit so I'm going to try and do that again.

I thought this idea might help if you are stuck for some ways of getting more money to help with the challenge.

Hi chaps - sorry I haven't posted in the last few days.

Nothing has come off my signature while I've been away - very busy sorting out work and general stuff. And getting my b/day out of the way.

Now that's done, I'm going to count my coins and make a payment into the bank today, so will update my sig later on. I've also been accepted by AQA (hurrah!) and sent my contract off yesterday. Emily - how long did you wait between sending in your contract and getting started? I'm itching to get going!

Keep going, you lot - I'll be chugging along for a while, but I'm still in!
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

    Hi

You have to set a date for an induction with one of the Senior Researchers (SR) who will contact you about this when they have received your contract. It's all done online via Yahoo messaging. You then have to answer 30 questions and then let your SR know when you have done this and they check through your questions and write a report just to say how you have done. You are then given a start date which will be when you can get going.

I think it will take you another few weeks yet, I seem to remember that they didn't offer me an induction until a week after I had sent my contract in.

Good luck and well done on getting accepted :T
  • Thanks Emily - I'm hoping to get all the induction stuff done before I start college again, but that's over a month away so should happen. I didn't find the test too difficult - challenging, yes, but I actually enjoyed it! It has to be an easier way to earn money than bar work!

    Hiya everyone
Well i'm working again today, can only work Thursday and Saturday because of the school holiday. Not sure if I pay anything off with todays earnings as i'm treating my sister to a meal out tonight as I only see for a few weeks a year (she lives abroad). I've sold four trolley tokens on ebay which pays for the shop for the month, yeahhhhhhhh! Not sure if there's any profit left after costs but will try and work it out later.

Hope you had a nice birthday minniespender and that you're feeling better Emily. Your new challenge sounds good.

    Take care xx

Are we putting this into our signatures?

Maybe you should also have a weekly update of all your progesses - just so the rest of us can keep track...

Good Luck, I would say may the best mse win but, you should all be winners in the end.

Thanks for the idea. I might do a weekly update listing everyone in the challenge, how much they started on and how much they have managed to pay off since it started.

My plan is to Ebay like mad this weekend. I'm going to put everything on a 1 day listing which I know is risky but sometimes you don't even start to get any bids until the last day.

I can just see one of us selling and doing everything that we possibly can and getting down to the last £1 of our debt and going around scouring the streets for any loose change!!

    I've got an update :D
I've collected £172.56 so far from the following:
    Pig :26.60
    Lotto win: 10
Found in an old account : 20
    Sold clothes :10
    Sold Clothes:90
Sold on ebay (baby bits) £5
    Books on amazon:10.96

I've still got a few books on amazon and a few bits on ebay (which have already been listed twice so don't think they'll sell at the minute) and now I've run out of things to sell :rotfl:

I've applied for a part time job and I'm scrimping as much as I can on the food budget

    Loving the challege
