MOT Advisories - Please advise
I have recently bought a second hand car from a garage and it was sold with a full 12 month MOT. The garage dropped the car off on Friday and I have just got round to looking through all the paperwork and wondered if anyone could offer me some advice.
The car is a 1999 'T' reg Astra 1.6 Automatic Estate and with the MOT certificate there is an 'Advisory Notice' with the following things on:
1. (Both front to rear) Brake pipe slightly corroded
2. Nearside rear Sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.
3. Offside rear Sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement.
Now, the car was advertised with a full MOT (which it has) but none of these things were mentioned in the add, nor was I given the opportunity to see the paperwork before buying.
Are these 3 things likely to be serious and are they likely to cost a lot to get put right?
I'm just wondering whether I'd be better off returning the car than getting these things done.

I wouldnt sweat too much over it.
First of all there is no such thing as a full MoT. It either has one or it doesnt, and yours has.
Advisories are simply that. An expression of opinion.
I have mots going back years on my car. I have some consecutive mot advisories where one year a couple of things are mentioned then next year, nothing mentioned and just passed.
Bear in mind the car is 10 years old,
The items you mentioned are in my opinion, not really big time.
The corrosion on the brake pipes is likely to be just minor surface.
A good tip is to spray waxoyl on underside brake pipes and hydraulic line ferrules.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Wouldn't worry about it at all.....Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

hi

you can also see the Advisory Notice's it has got to
i hope this helps0 -
Nothing to worry about - anything that is a problem or dangerous would have caused the car to fail its MOT. The fact is, it passed the MOT.
The advisories are just that, advise that some things may need attention at some point. On a car of that age those sort of things mentioned are quite normal. Dont forget as well that at that age cars will not be perfect.

We have just bought a Peugeot 206 which is only 4 years old and it has some advisories on its last MOT. We took it to the garage and got it checked over and was told that they are just things to be aware of which will need attention at some point in the future.BSC support number 158

I had an Advisory at my last MOT for "Worn Front Tyres".
I asked the tester about this as they were legal but the outside edges had been slightly worn on a track day. He said in his opinion the tyres showed signs of wear.
I had to have a test for another issue and when the second tester at the garage produced the certificate, no Advisory about "worn tyres"0 -

We had a Fiesta which had an advisory on the brake pipes. It started to loose fluid and we were told it was the clutch cylinder which had a leak.
When we took it to the MOT they declared the car as dangerious as the one of the pipes was so rusted itr was leaking out fluid.
Get a second opinion from a trusted garage or even pay an MOT only place a little bit of money to check it.0
