He's looking to claim ESA, and I thought you could get one from the gp surgery, but the receptionist said that you can't, Does anybody know the answer?? Obviously he'll get a fit note from the doctor for the rest of the time he's unwell, but would like a self certificate form for the first week.

Have a look at this. It appears to say that the unemployed can claim ESA straight away.

Thank-you for your response elsien. He is going to do just that, but the lady on the esa helpline said he could self certify for the first severn days. so I'm looking to find out where he can get one of those from.0 -

Thank-you Richard and he has done this, and sorry if I haven't worded it very well, he just needs a self certificate form.0 -
They used to have them in Jobcentre plus (but I haven't worked there for over 6 years but when I did there was a (very old) stack of them0

Does anybody know if what Claire said is still the case, because I swear that you used to be able to get them from your gp surgery too.0

If you look at the link I posted, it mentions form SC1 for self certification for the unemployed/self employed.
Can be downloaded from directgov.co.uk but it seems awfully long for self certification. Wouldn't it be easier to phone the ESA helpline again? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thank-you for the link. It's unclear whether he can just print one off or whether he needs to pick one up from the local tax office though.0
