....Just out of interest, do all you Brita advocates live south of the border?

No one i know in Scotland seems to own one!

I have been using a Brita water filter for years. Various impurities and toxic metals are removed and the water tastes clean and fresh. I have 6 half a litre bottles which I always fill and keep in the fridge, and when I go out I always carry some with me in a suitably sized cool-bag so I have cold water all day long in the summer.

Filtered water also makes a better cup of tea! :)

One thing worth considering when buying bottled water of any variety is the ecological implications. I was recently reading that the trend for drinking bottled water has hugely increased the amount of plastic bottles produced.

Apparently a chap in Cornwall has set himself up as a 'waterman' and delivers local spring water, in recyclable bottles to your doorstep. He brings them in a van powered by lpg. I wish I knew where to link for this but it was in a local mag when we were on hols recently.
If I had the entrepreneurial spirit I would give that a go myself. We only live a couple of miles away from a spring water producer(?) / bottler.
We are lucky to have Yorkshire Water which, I think has the best record for water quality in England. So I stopped bothering with my Brita filter as it wasn't getting used regularly enough to be hygenic.
I do buy bottled water whilst out better for DD than juice or pop. but am trying to get myself more organised and take a refillable bottle with me.

However, I know the Brita filters are really easy to find - not sure about the Kenwood ones.

Yeah, Bitta ones are everywhere - it makes sense that most places would choose to stock these over other brands as they're the best known, the most expensive and probably the most popular!

I got the kenwood one from Robert Dyas...who also stock Britta and other makes of filter if you fancy doing a comparison instore. ;)

I started using a Brita filter about 6 months ago-we live in the East Midlands and our water is much 'harder' than when we lived in the South.
We use the filtered water for the kettle, for boiling water for potatoes, pasta, veggies ,drinks etc and the difference is amazing,I wouldn't be without it.
We used to buy the bottled type but found the recycling bin couldn't cope!
This way is much more environmentally friendly and much cheaper!:p

PS-I bought my Classic Brita from Superdrug on special offer and I buy the universal cartridges from Tesco -\about £7 for 3, and I change mine every 6 weeks.

I use bottled value water at work - I keep it in the fridge and drink it instead of coffee all day - at home we have a private supply - nice water so I drink that instead - dont like to store the fresh water though.
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

I had been umming and aahing about buying a water filter for months. When I moved from Hereford to Bradford I noticed the water had an unpleasant chlorine/sulphur sort of taste. I had been buying bottle water but was concerned about the environmental impact of those plastic bottles (plus you don't know how long the water's been hanging about in those bottles before it gets to you). I eventually took the plunge and went for a Brita water filter when I saw it on offer at Tesco. The whole family love it. It makes the water take much cleaner and crisper. I wouldn't be without it now.

I only drink water and am very aware of the taste of chlorine in our tap water (which the water company says that virtually nobody can detect :o )

For several years now I have been using Brita filters and find it totally drinkable. An added bonus is that the kettle doesn't 'fur up' as it did with tap water.

Must say, though, that I don't change the filter every 4 weeks as they suggest - just when I think it needs it (about every 6 weeks or so!)

Is this a good deal? you get twelve filters, which by you guys' suggestions, should actually work to about 18 months supply

I use Sainsburys bottled water for work. 17p a bottle as we don't have access to a tap! Don't care if it is just filtered tap water as it is clean and cheaper than paying 80p a bottle for Evian. Am fine with tap water at home. Am worried about the ecological consequences of bottled water generally. And feel slightly guilty that in 3rd world countries people are dying because of a lack of water that we now turn our noses up at!
