Another one here who just fills a jug and bottles straight from the tap. No need to filter ( I have found). Leave it over night and take a bottle to work!0

We always drank tap water until a couple of months ago. Then we got campybackter(sp) hubby ended up in hosp for a few days , other people in the area had symptoms etc. We put it down to the water because our daughter never drinks tap water and was`nt affected. We buy aldi`s water now - big 5litre bottles.

Im another in favour of a brita filter. Its been fantastic in our house. We use it for filling the kettle too and instead of having to de-scale it regularly (as we are in a tempory hard water area) it only needs doing once in a blue moon (like every year instead of every month)
We dont replace the filter as often as it suggests, it often lasts for 3 months instead of 1. We tend to know it needs doing as you get a wee bit of limscale deposit in the kettle (a slight film on the top.)
I must say however from a sort of chemical point of view since we have had the water shortages we belive the water company has changed where it sources its water from. In shortened long story I run an outdoor pool. Our water tests have showed different readings for the mains water we add to the pool (for the worse, they are still within requirements however) and a different source is all we can put it down to. This is effecting i personally think the water quality as its not so good any more, i can taste a difference.
EDIT: We also use brita water in the iron to stop it getting limescale and dumping the nasty white powder on the clothes when you use steam.0 -
I used to have a Brita filter and it definitely made the tap water much more palatable, but I found the filters expensive, even on special offer. We had a bit of an accident with that one and broke it, so replaced it with a kenwood one. Works just the same, but is cheaper and takes 3 different cartridges, including brita and boots own. As it happens, it came with a years worth of kenwood cartridges when I bought it, which my wallet was very pleased with.
The only potential downside is that it doesn't have an indicator to 'tell' you when to change the cartridge, just a date thing to remind you to change it after a month. I don't find this a problem at all as I can pretty much tell when it needs to be changed from the taste. Plus I always found the brita one was fine for another week or two after it indicated to change the filter...0 -
I too drink bottled - Lidl is good. Started when I worked in a school a few miles away, I woke at 2 - 3 am with stomach pains for nearly a year, then over the summer I didn't get them only for them to start a few dfays after going back to work in September. I sent for analyses of the water and ours from home to compare. the only significant difference was that the water at work had much higher zinc and iron levels (in some cases only just below the legal minimum levels) the school was also old so it may have had lead piping (one of the symptoms of lead poisoning I found out afterwards was stomach pains).
Not only that I've tried the open jug in the fridge trick and I can still taste chlorine!0 -

I think it's the machine, TBH. Sometimes the coffee and tea gives me a bit of a cramp.
A trip to Argos at the weekend for a kenwood filter then I think! I've always thought they're a waste of money, but you guys seem keen, so i'll give it a go!0 -
Hi Pink-Winged,
Lots of supporters for Brita I see. It makes a HUGE difference to how the water tastes. I do look out for the filters on special though so the Kenwood might be a good idea. However, I know the Brita filters are really easy to find - not sure about the Kenwood ones.

We are quite lucky, we get our cartridges from the Remmington shop in the Outlet Centre Swindon. £10 for 3 last time i got them (6-9 month supply for me!) They are Remmington brand yet fit out brita fine. If you've got one near you that might be a place to look.0
