Budget bottled V tap water?

Does anyone get the cheap bottled waters (I'm thinking tesco Value type) and are they just tap water repackaged?
I drink a fair bit of water at work (filtered through our coffee machine), but it doesn't taste great and sometimes gives me stomach ache.
Am thinking of buying cheap bottled water instead, but would I be wasting my money?

Have you tried filtering it yourself?
I use a Brita filter. The filtered water tastes great, it's cheap and there's no transport or disposal of plastic bottles involved so it's more environmentally friendly as well.0 -
Hi Liz,
Our tap water is foul, so I drink tesco's value water and it's great...I certainly can't taste any difference between it and the more expensive brands.
Talitha, I've thought about a britta filter, but haven't got around to doing anything about it yet....does it really make the tapwater taste better?

If I found that drinking tap water gave me stomach ache, I'd be inclined to contact the water company and get it tested.Stompa0 -
Apparently very cold drinks can cause stomach cramps. Maybe thats why the water at work makes you ill, if its chilled?0

I know I'm not Talitha, Pink-winged but I'll answer anyway!!
I was the biggest sceptic going about Bitta type filters but my sons wanted one and said they were good. I couldn't believe the difference it makes! I used to be perfectly happy drinking my tap water, but after only a week with the filter it just didn't taste as nice anymore!
The water tastes really "clean" from the jug and of course it does mean you keep it constantly topped up so always have lovely cold water in the fridge.
Must admit I'm not the best at remembering to fill the kettle with it, but I don't really notice the difference in hot drinks.
Anyway when the old one's lid got broken, I was straight up to Argos for a new one, that's how much I couldn't be without now! Might just be me though, see what others say.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
I wont drink spring water......its not purified or filtrated.I heard theres so many grams of poo per amount.Dead sheep can fall in streams.......fish poo.....this is why in old days they used to drink ale.
I boil water from the tap.Cool it and pop it in an old lemonade bottle in fridge to chill.
I even put the dogs water in a thermos flask to keep it cool when we take them out for the day!0 -
I wont drink coke cola either as that has urea in bleurgh0

We've got a Brita water filter, cos our tap water always tasted of bleach. It's fine when it's been through the filter though. Makro have them on offer at the moment at £14.99+vat, and that includes the filter jug, some filters and a couple of stainless steel drinks bottles for the kids.0

Bottled water that doesn't say 'mineral/spring water' on the label will almost certainly be filtered tap water.
Tap water all the way for me. If yours tastes a bit chlorine-y then put some in a jug with an open top and chill it in the fridge for a couple of hours - the chlorine will evaporate (not entirely sure why it evaporates better in the fridge but I'm reliably informed that it does) and cold water tastes better in any case.
I use filtered water for boiling the kettle and boiling veg as I'm in a hard water area and don't want to get everything gunked up.0 -
I run the tap, fill a jug and chill in the fridge, I read somewhere that the chlorine and nasties evaporate, we drink it all the time and its ok. We spend so much on bloomin' water charges I resent buying bottled and then there's the problem of environmental damage with the empties...0
