I just thought of something, could there be a fault with the Laptops card slot? The yellow ethernet lead i use connects to a 10/100 lan card and the wireless adaptor card doesn't seem to work either, so could it be the card slot?

Also if i kept this Laptop wired to the hub, could i connect another Laptop via wireless at the same time?

I'm trying to connect it close to the hub. So can i use the hub wired to one computer and another computer by wireless, is that what you are saying?

Yes but you really should use Ethernet as the USB port on the hub is only USB 1.1

I can't get a connection with the yellow Ethernet lead, thats why i'm having to use the blue ended USB lead.

Probably because your helpful BT person told you to install the software necessary to use the USB cable. (Bad advice) No software needs to be installed on your computer to use the Ethernet connection and an Ethernet connection is the best way to connect. You have previously connected using Ethernet, so go back to this method at it is preferable if you have an Ethernet port. If you disconnect the USB cable and connect the Ethernet cable, you should connect straight away without using the software that you installed as recommended by the BT person.

The wireless adaptor i'm trying to use is a Belkin wireless G notebook network card. I've installed it and set it up using my Hubs security key number, but nothing happens.

Unfortunately both of the products that you are using are rubbish when it comes to user guides! I have tried to download the user guide for the hub from this page but it does not work and Belkin are just as useless!

I bought the hub so that i could use it by wireless so i havn't got leads hanging everywhere. The wireless was in use for about 10 minutes and i was able to connect to the internet for that time, but then i lost the connection and havn't been able to get it back via wireless since.

You should forget the USB connection and get your main PC connected to the hub using Ethernet and then move on to getting your other PC connected via wireless. Depending on what operating system you are using, you may be able to use the built in windows wireless connection utility to connect or you may have to use the Belkin wireless connection software.

Thanks for your help, i'll re insert the BT disc and re connect using the Yellew ethernet lead. I'll let you know if it's ok.

You shouldn't need any disk to connect using Ethernet. The CD is only needed to install drivers required for USB the device i.e. the hub. When you connect using Ethernet do not use the software installed on your PC to connect, as that is for connection using USB.

I tried connecting the yellow Ethernet lead but couldn't get the internet connection, so i tried re installing the disc and they told me to connect the blue lead again. I phoned BT up and they said the yellow Ethernet seems to have been corrupted, whatever that means. So i can't use the Eternet.

Sometimes you need to div around with the Ethernet settings on the computer - when I installed my father's router then the Ethernet connection wouldn't work and I had to use the control panel to make sure that TCIP etc was all installed and enabled etc.

    Anyway
Has anyone experienced problems with their wireless connection?
From what I've heard from people at work/friends etc, everyone has had problems with wireless networking. I prefer to be wired, it's much more reliable.

  • I have Bt wireless Broadband and basically have to use it like the conventional system either use the internet or make a phone call, or if making a call while the internet is on there is a loud crackling noise on the phone, rather defeats the purpose of broadband. Just seem to be passed from one section of BT to another. Anyone had similar experience.

When you have it connected using the Ethernet cable, can you see the routers set up page on your PC? There is more to life than Big Brother and this Hub could be an expensive door stop, if you don't get it set up and working! You have had it working using Ethernet before, so you know that it will.
