I'm afraid I consider turning up totally unannounced, just because you happen to be buying a house from someone, to be rudeness of the highest order.

By all means call in to measure, check something, etc - but ask first, and preferably ask via the selling agent.

I completely agree with googler on this. Buyers turning up unexpectedly is taking things much too far.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

When i was selling, the couple came alone, then again with her parents, third visit was with his parents. Then a another visit with her sister.
As it got near to exchange and completion had a couple more visits to measure up.
Once they'd agreed to buy they could have come everyday and i wouldn't have minded.

Frankly, if my vendors refused me any further viewings I would assume that they have something to hide and halt the purchase.

I viewed the house I am in five times before I actually moved in.

I have to say the family living here were really helpful and accomodating and made the whole moving experience much more pleasurable that past experiences. A little helpfulness goes a long way to making for a smooth sale.

Good luck with your house sale BTW

OP: try to remember that they are attempting to see it as their house!! If they want to revisit several times, let them. I agree with those who say that unannounced calls are not fair, but FGS give them some leeway. They will understand if the place is messy. If a vendor was reluctant to let me view more than twice I would definitely pull out of buying.

Gosh, I have viewed a house three times and only just put an offer in! And if accepted I'll be back in there at least once measuring up, but I wouldn;t then expect it to be tidied up for me. You spend hundreds of thousands on a house, you need to be sure it's right.
