So, exactly, how much ESA would I get?
How come the ESA wouldn't be wiped out, yet if I went on JSA it would?
How come I would get contributions based ESA if I have been on benefits the last seven years?

    Thanks

Might be an idea for you to read my link to esa above, its a long read but informative,if you are cont based then you will still be on cont.based if you receive I/S to top up I/B you will move to income based
    have a read,but make a brew first

I read the bit about pensions and ESA on the pdf but couldnt understand it. I did a word search within the pdf file for pensions. Thanks anyway

I do not receive income support

As I get a pension, a little bit if my IB is reduced.

Will the same happen with my ESA, i.e. only a little bit of it reduced?

I duno if my IB is contributions based, all i know is that some sort of NI is paid automatically on IB, dunno if it is enough to qualify me for the contributions based ESA?

sorry to sound thick, but it seems so complicated.

    thanks in advance

Sorry to sound thick, but I am struggling to understand this,

bottom line, if I am transferred to ESA, and my pension is 100.00 per week (400.00 per month) will the deduction in ESA only be small?

thank you kindly and sorry again for being a thick nuicsance.

unless you live in greater manchester the transfers will not start untill feb2011 till 2014 so no one can tell what your pension will be or the rates of esa will be then

The IB & ESA(C) pension income rules are the same- 50% deduction after £85pw. For example- pension of £100pw - less £85 =£15 divide by 2 =£7.50. £7.50 is deducted from IB/ESA.
For ESA(IB)- income based- all pension income is taken into account.

As healy has said, those on IB will only go onto ESA if they pass the ESA medical called WCA.

If my contributions have only been paid out of my IB, and not from employment, how come I will be on contributions based ESA?

thanks for all the info so far, its appreciated, and sorry for so many questions.

Your NI conts are not being used in this IB>ESA change. If you score the 15 points needed and pass the ESA medical called WCA, you will transfer from IB to ESA(C)- its that simple! Thats what the new Regulations will say when passed by Parliament. You would just be being 'moved' from the old benefit to the new benefit-don't worry.

Although I havent paid any contributions since I worked in 2003, as I have been claiming since 2004, can I confirm that, if the rules stay the same, I would be put on contributions based ESA?

    Is ESA(C) contributions based?

thanks all, you've been helpful so far, and sorry for the questions.
