  • I think the first time since school that a health professional mentioned smear tests was when I pregnant with my son, at the age of 19. I said I hadn't had one because I'd been told that routine testing wasn't necessary before the age of 20, and she said waiting till 20 was ony advisable for women who weren't sexually active.
One thing I want to say is, if it does hurt, don't panic! Some of us are just more sensitive down there than others. I'd been told that it would be slightly uncomfortable but not painful. Slightly uncomfortable, in my mind, is something like that reflex test where they run a pointy thing over the sole of your foot to make your toes curl. When I discovered that a smear test was painful for me, I was worried there was something wrong, but it turned out I had no infection or anything, just an unusually sensitive vagina and cervix.

    Hi Peril,

I used to horse ride as a kid/teen so I thought a smear test was going to be a breeze for my first one-I wouldnt have a hymen anymore anyway!

    It is different for everyone.

And when I met my was then boyfriend/now husband (ew could of killed him an dug him up an killed him again etc) I found out I at 17 I had a "tight" vagina through the health clinic near me. (Its not so tight anymore unfortunately. :p 3 kids do that to you-but not if your a celeb :rotfl: .)
