Short term broadband rental

I want to put a broadband line in to my mothers house for about 2 months so that I can stay there whilst she is recuperating. Has anyone got any suggestions of which service might be better?

Mobile broadband is probably your only option, but research very carefully what your likely reception quality will be. Bear in mind that what the operator's web sites say and what you get could be different if you happen to live on the ground floor and and have 6 foot thick walls.

Is there already a BT line in there to receive ADSL?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi

I use 3's mobile broadband, using Pay As You Go. They're currently offering a one month contract that includes 5GB for £15. It's a rolling monthly contract so all you'd need to do is give them 30 days notice that you're cancelling (so, in your case by the end of the first month). You'll also need a 3G dongle which you could pick up very cheaply on Ebay.

    Hope this helps :j

It's almost just as cheap to sign up with o2 for 12 months via quidco. Could you ask a neighbour to share wifi

There is a standard BT line in the house which I guess I will have to upgrade. Might just consider the mobile option though.

There are companies you can get broadband from without needing a long contract but if you stop the broadband without getting a mac and transferring to another provider you will probably get charged a £25 upwards fee for ending the service on that line.

    See here for example
