T-Mobile Credit Rejected without a credit check even taking place. How?

I tried to take out a contract on the htc desire. 18months £20 per month for 300mins/unlimited tex/unlimited net. Placed the order over the phone directly with t mobile sales, was told that id been credit rejected and that i should maybe join credit expert to find out why.

the next day i tried to take out the contract again this time online and again was rejected so i did join credit expert. Over a week later i finally saw my credit report and discovered that there is nothing wrong with my credit rating but of more interest is that a section of the credit report shows previous searches that have been done on my credit status and there were NO entries for T mobile.

So how can they reject me without even doing a search?

It can take weeks before searches show up. Also T may not use Experian for their checks.
  • hi, well t mobile told me to sign up to experian/credit expert when i first got rejected so im presuming thats who they use, and when i spoke to credit expert this morning i was told that any credit checks on me would appear instantly on my credit report

do you perhaps not have any credit? sometimes a lack of credit history (showing regular payments to others) can go against you. I dont know about t mobile but I know you can ask vodafone to manually appeal the application if you can see no reason - can anyone else say?

    HTC desire is brilliant btw.

At £20 per month there is a handset charge thru website.

The credit score is meaningless as each organisation use their own scoring system. You need to look at whether you are registered to vote, stable address (not moving around too frequently), stable banking (not changing too often), some credit out that is paid off regularly, no late or missed payments. If T-mobile have rejected you without doing a search, then they have rejected you on something you have told them them yourself - have you recently moved home perhaps?

yeah i know the score is meaningless its the actual report thats important

i havent told t-mobile anything out of the ordinary, ive lived here 3 yrs, previous addy 20 yrs, have had a credit card 20yrs bank a/c for 35yrs.

as i said i even tried it online and was emailed a credit rejection but no evidence of credit check on my report.

im sure the guy from credit expert must be right about a check appearing instantly on my report. if it took weeks to appear then surely people would be able to take out dozens of credit cards and mortgages in those couple of weeks without any other companies been any wiser until it was too late

Whether you go instore, phone up or use the site, you will go through the same scoring. Therefore you should expect that both your telephone and online check will eventually appear on your credit record. Stop and do not do anymore credit checks with anyone for a couple of months to prevent your score being affected.

If you think you have a good credit history and should get a phone then you will probably succeed an appeal.

Write a small note with your full name and address and when you applied online for a contract, with a note about how good your history is. Write how long you have been in the UK, the fact you have no defaults and pay all your bills.

    Address:

    Credit Referral Department
    T-Mobile UK
    Hatfield Business Park
    Hatfield
    Hertfordshire
    AL10 9BW

Within a week you should be able to take out a contract. If you have defaults, dont have any bills in your name or havent been in the country very long, then thats prolly why you arent doing too well.

I have seen many friends offline and online succeed through this process. Only one failed and thats because he had only been in the UK for a few months, yet to be on the electral register and no bills. He was a complete unknown to this country so it was not a surprise.

    Good luck.
  • cheers, i have written to tmobile credit referals but was given the following address twice by two different sales reps, ive yet to hear back from them

    credit referals
    t mobile uk
    po box 322
    ashford
    tw15 9ba

it looks like the whole point might be moot now anyway as tmobile seem to have jacked the prices up since i originally applied. for the plan i wanted

    18months £20 per month for 300mins/unlimited tex/unlimited net

they had wanted £129 upfront for the handset, theyd offered me it for £100 now on the website it says they want £191 up front for the handset for the exact same contract and that is more than im prepared to pay and i sincerely doubt they will honour the original deal i struck with them as last time i spoke to them they didnt seem to have any record of it.
