I have a newborn baby and was expecting maybe 20 mins - 40 mins for a quote but it went on for 3 hours and the rep used what I can only describe as very very high pressure sales techniques. At one point he even told me to log onto my online banking to check my funds when I said I wanted to review finances before signing up!!! My other half works away and the sales rep knowing this kept insisting I ring him to discuss the quote so I could sign up there and then. When I refused and asked him to go he said he just needed to ring his manager and then again refused to leave and dropped the price. In the end I signed up just to get rid of him as my girls were getting very hungry and my newborn needed my full attention. He took full advantage of me being on my own with a new baby to hype up the pressure. He also told me i shouldnt cancel as it would mean he'd loose his annual bonus!!! I ,needless to say, cancelled the order via email and post as soon as he left. Awful awful sales techniques and my advise do not let them through the door or your never get rid of them till you sign up!!
Disgusting treatment, and of a new mother too. As a male I'd of physically removed him as soon as he refused to go, but what an awful situation for you to of been in0 -
My problem with Anglian is not the product or the workmanship, or, if you haggle with them well enough, the price.
It is the sales process and methodology, which is neanderthal in this day and age.
It seems to me that Windows are the last true bastion of aggressive high pressure drop close selling in the home.
With the demise of Moben, and recently Betta Living, it has almost ceased now with kitchens.Thankfully.0 -

A typical consumer is regarded as fair game for this pressure selling, and it will continue. This might be, for example, mobility chairs, or mobility scooters, or burglar alarms (I witnessed it with ADT a while back now.)
The con trick and pressure selling did exist with cavity wall insulation and with solar panels. Both ceased because the market changed, and not because the low life sales folks had changed to an honourable method of working. However, it is a certainty these folks will come up with new ideas to stitch up consumers.
Whilst I have sympathies with charlie.83 over their dreadful Anglian experience the reality is nobody should ever allow these people into their homes. If all were to do this Anglian, Everest, Safestyle and other sales people would cease to exist. We can live in hope!0 -

Unfortunately, the Likes of Anglain & Everest regularly tender for contracts with housing authorities across the country. If the average Joe Muggins doesn't buy, the HAs & councils will and so keep these companies in business. Her courage will change the world.

In my opinion there has been a significant decline in quality control by housing associations over the last decade, or so. However, one hopes their systems will ensure the tax payer is not getting conned by such companies should they be awarded contracts.0 -
Just as an update to my previous post about this company, as I said I emailed them to cancel (as you have to write to them) 2 days later I had not had confirmation this had been cancelled so I called them. The manager I spoke to agreed it had been cancelled but was so non caring about the complaint I made about the sales pitch that it reiterates that I made the right choice. 2 days later I then got bombarded with calls trying to arrange a survey. When I rang the office and again explained it had been cancelled the girl on the phone said oh sorry our surveyor isn't office trained so probably doesn't know its cancelled! All I can say is this shows you what an awful company this really is. Oh and deposit still not repaid to me!!!0

Just to recap, the original question was about a quote received by a company called Anglia First. Looking through I notice that over half of these comments (mostly derogatory) are about a company called Anglian Windows. These are two very separate companies all be it with similar names and people would do well to make that very clear when you are slating someone's business. The window industry, as a whole, does have a poor reputation. However, there are lots of decent window companies that should not have their name dragged through the mud just because somebody couldn't read! And no, I do not work for either of these companies before anyone gets on their high horse.0

what do you know about Anglia First
Ah yes... Started out under the name of Debbage & Tubby back in the 70s - They installed some wood framed double glazing for my mother around 1975.
They now appear to use the same marketing tactics as Anglian Windows. i.e. Knocking on doors, telesales, and hard sell at inflated prices. I recently found out that the methods used by these "salesmen" across the board could well be in breach of the Consumer Protection Regulations - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/409334/bis-14-1030-misleading-and-aggressive-selling-rights-consumer-protection-amendment-regulations-2014-guidance.pdfHer courage will change the world.
