Veolia Water

Can anyone help here. There are at least 8 properties linked to one water pipe due to the houses been pre second world war and how the pipes were fitted then. Some of them are privately owned and some are HA.
There is a water leak at one of the private properties and so we have all been sent the same bill to pay for the cost of mending the leak but split between the 8 of us.

My husband and I are not disputing paying it but what we are in query about is why we have to pay £163.092 for Administration costs and what on earth is meant by Billing collection and recovery which we have to pay as part of the bill too; £226.36. Somewhere in these charges also is the cost of replacing the decking to the affected property which we think should not be included. (This has to be lifted in order to mend the pipe) Why do we have to pay for this as well?

We all have to pay £475.60. I have explained to Veolia that I am being made redundant and won't have the money to pay in one lump sum and have asked to spread the cost but they have said the minimum we can pay is £100.00. I explained that this too is too much and need to pay less. Can they make us by £100?

Any suggestions/advice is welcomed on this.

Thanks

    Would your insurance cover this?
  • Glider thanks for responding. Hadn't thought of the insurance I'll check it out but we still don't agree with some of the costs. I'll let you know what the insurance company say.

    Cheers

£3,804 to fix a leak? I think someone is having a laugh. What is the access to the leak area like? How can that charge be justified-is there something else included (cost of the wasted water?)
Surely you were notified of this cost before the work went ahead?

  • Macman you are probably right. Come to think of it it is a lot of money. I wonder how much it would be if the pipe was connected to a single house. They have broken it down but I really do wonder how they came to the cost that they did. I think I will have a word with all of the affected properties and get them to question it too.

Please if anyone has more on the legalities of any of this especially the minimum amount we have been told we have to pay, your words of wisdom will not go unheeded.

  • Hi peeps update on this water issue. we have now had an invoice for £558.83 to pay our share of the costs. This is a different amount with VAT added on now. There was a letter with it but the letter did in no way answer my questions about the break down of costs such the high administration fee, billing and recovery. The invoice came a couple of days ago and then today I received another letter with a statement! does anyone have an experience or know of anyone's experience with Veoila water? I'm going to take legal advice before I pay anything. It all sounds rather a lot to me.
