Horrid weather today, was hoping to go for a walk but it’s pouring so will stay in. Plenty of ironing to do and the last episode of the third day to watch, my life is so exciting now! Bad news yesterday, ds1 has lost his job, all the way along they have said he will keep it and he was due to start again next week 😢 he worked for them for a year as and when before he got a permanent job and they have said they will take him back if anything comes up, so sorry for him as he has been desperate to go back, combined with no longer being able to see friends it’s rough.
Might need to check the accounts today and do an update , I’m terrible at keeping in top of things lately.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
Poor DS1, that's rough. And with the Tier 2 and the weather, it's hard to be positive, I'm sure. But he will get through this and there's another job out there for him somewhere!
Enjoy (?) the ironing! Agree about the weather, it's just vile, isn't it?!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks Vix, he’s already looking but it’s not the best timing with so many others being let go.I’m going to cancel our Alton towers trip today ☹️ we have hung on, but dd has moved out to her boyfriends again, we did consider booking them a separate hotel room nearby but after a few days discussion we all think it’s not really in the spirit of lockdown and being separate is not the experience we wanted. She’s very down having moved out again, first time round she was ok and that was for months, this time she very teary 😢 I’ve told her she should switch back before Xmas if it is still the same level of lockdown, I really am a bit worried she’s so fed up. Boyfriend offered to move in with us again but we no longer have a spare room (ds2’s) for an office he can use so it’s the easier at option.Oh well at least the rain has stopped today, I’m doing my now weekly non shopping trip taking back a few things I bought the other day. The days are feeling quite long lately, can’t believe I’m missing going into work 😆
Anyone who has a sparks card have a look in offers today as I (and best friend) both have a free bag of Percy pigs on there 😬MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -
That's a shame about his job.. but probably wise to cancel Aton towers.
Our DD2 felt really isolated in first lockdown. It's a a worry for sureMortgage restart June 2018 £119950Re mortgage August 19 £110470, … Mortgage November 22 £85600 final 0% CC 3300Home renovations - £65000, mid 2018 - mid 20225 -
Sad but wise to cancel Alton Towers.
I think the lockdown situation really is a baptism of fire for those on the cusp of independence/moving out - you have to make your choice and stick to it, which must be really hard without a hug from Mum when needed (I'm still missing hugs from Mum and I'm 35 and have been married 8 years!). I feel for your DD (and yours MfD).
Taking things back is good! How are things coming along with setting up your own business? I thought you were hoping to get some stuff out there for Christmas presents, or does DH not have time at the moment? Is it something DS could help with?Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Thanks guys, I think it’s the right call. It sounds silly but it’s the only thing we have all been looking forward to all year and I was so hoping we would make it. Vix, she moved out for so many months earlier in the year and was ok so I’m surprised she’s finding it so hard so quickly this time. I think she may switch house after a couple of months this time if it’s longer term again and with my support even though we could be breaking the rules, although actually it does say you can move once so I’m not sure 🤔 Mfd's I’m sorry for you dd, it’s hard on so many levels for them and the media seems to show them as often rather selfish which in my opinion is wrong and it’s a minority behaving like that. My three 20/20/23 have followed the rules all the way through (so far!) , my 78/80 year old in-laws certainly didn’t! It’s should be such a special time for them, they should be out carefree becoming independent. Things will be different after all this and they won’t get that time back, a friend of mine used to call our party years (17-20 odd) our “heyday” which I used to find very funny, but I think she had a point you get a bit more grown up after that and can’t get away with so much! I feel like they are missing out on the most fun times of their lives. It could be much worse though I know, a few generations earlier and we would be waiting to see if they came back from war ☹️Today I’ve bought some outdoor warm white fairy lights to go round the garden, I’ve already got 4x bright red large Sherpa blankets (Wilco sale £5) so I’m turning the garden into a Christmas winter wonderland this year - well trying to 😆 so we can go outside with dd sometimes, this weekend we are pumpkin picking, then back for jacket potatoes in the garden. I’ve also splashed out on a “frankencolin” and some sweets from M&S, which seems reasonable as we are not away now.Vix , I know it’s not the same but 🤗 here’s a big hug anyway, thanks for popping by all the time and commenting, it makes a big difference especially at the moment, everybody is so supportive here 😊
opps edit- forgot to say I’ve done nothing towards the new business still as the equipment is not here still that we need, dh can’t bring it until he’s finished the log cabin- he’s boarding it all every night at the moment. On he plus side we have had loads of private work so that’s a few days work a week for me at home which is fine, plus I can do it watching Netflix instead of being in an unheated factory, bliss!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
Sorry you're having a tough time Newgirly. If it makes you feel better my 'heyday' lasted about a decade! I think it's much more acceptable with this generation to travel, have fun and settle later, so they still have time. I'm sure it will be different, but they will adapt.

Sounds like you enjoyed your ‘heyday’ bargainhunter 😁
Accounts checked and all is ok, I spent a bit yesterday but that can come from the Alton towers budget, there is a surplus left of £91 in premium bonds now which I will leave there as I’m hoping to add around £35pm to that every month. New much lower wages start from November (reduced kids rent too) and no more furlough, a plan of what we will do from next year will need to be done too , I’ll get through nov/dec without taking any money out from the business. I guess lockdown will help with reduced spending!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
Aw NG, you've made me blush!
You seem to have had a hard time of it lately though and I find there's so much support from the people round here that it's good to share.
The garden plans sound absolutely lovely - very winter wonderland! Do you have a chiminea or similar for warmth? We've been saving our confidential waste that we'd normally shred to burn when we have guests round - solves two problems at once!
I second what Bargainhunter said - your kids have got plenty of time to have fun and enjoy themselves. Things are different these days - you settled down quite young, if I recall correctly? I guess perhaps lockdown is harder second time around for DD as she knows what's coming? And we're all a bit wiser to the reality that this could continue for a long time and there's a lot less of the 'we're all in this together' spirit this time around. It's tough!
It sounds like DH is working like a trooper - has he not evicted all the spiders yet so you can give him a hand.... although, for someone who loves Halloween so much, I'm surprised you're scared of spiders - can't you channel your inner witch and make friends with them?Good news about the private work though - every little helps!

No way am I going in that shed until it’s clear and spotless, we do have a chiminea though so I shall find something to burn 😁We did settle down very young, married at 21 so I guess that’s unusual nowadays and there’s not such a rush which is a good thing in the current situation, we can’t help towards weddings for a while yet...
Today I’ve “borrowed” from my parents a nice gazebo and a brand new big fan heater for warehouses, my dad has a system of writing his full name in permanent marker on most items in his shed/garage so we don’t borrow them, so I’ve done well as he’s not named these yet, thus proving his ownership 😆 dh has found a box of fairy lights on the shed so I’ll have a look in daylight, I’m thinking of going the whole national lampoons this year but in the back garden 🌲MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4
