Great news on dd's expenses being paid, will make such a difference and rightly so.
That is a decent overpayment,

Hi Cath, I think I read somewhere there’s a time limit then you can switch again
Hi mfd’s, if only he left early Saturday! This was Friday, his first words when I arrived home Friday lunchtime were “I can’t believe I’m here on a Friday afternoon , I should be in the boozer” (he left at 2.20). Radio silence from dad who hasn’t been round or asked how much has been done, he usually likes to get involved
We went to see 1917 this morning, amazing film, my heart was in my mouth for most of it, we took ds1 with us as well.
I’ve done some online shopping today, a few summer dresses for the cruise later this year, only because I need some anyway as it’s a hot one and most of them were cheaper than the secondhand ones I’ve been watching on eBay, mostly £5.99,plus one lovely floor length pink satin dress £90 reduced to £9.99 :T I will not keep everything I’ve ordered (have ordered enough for free delivery of course :money:) it will come out of next months personal spends. Other than that it’s been a no spend weekend.
Lots to check on now, still don’t know when payday is but I know more or less now what this months op’s should be for January and it’s more than the planned basic £1470 :jMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁1 -
Builder clearly having a lie in today as no sign  it’s starting to get me down now.
Still, on the bright side it’s payday apparently today :j:j:j paid dad the rest of what the materials cost, put by £100 for the cruise in 2021, sent dd £100 for february for misc. bits she might need on her placement, the rest will be distributed to the various millions of accounts for direct debits we have and the balance will be op’d
Back later with the first update of 2020!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁1 -
Morning NG,
Going to back DD's situation, I can see that it must be really hard for her - although I'm slightly confused as to how she's been managing to save for a house? Surely buying next year relies on her having a paid job by then? It's great that you want to help her out and that she's reluctant to accept (agree completely that if she was money-grabbing it would be different!), but the pension situation is worrying - you should really be looking at it now as the sooner you're invested the hugely greater the compounding effect - it's waaay bigger than you might think. Just something to think about...
As for the builder, urgh, I don't blame you at all for being completely fed up! What a delight he sounds (not).:mad: Hope he pitches up soon and gets a bloomin' move on!
Looking forward to the update!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Hi vix, she’s saved from working full time while at uni for much of it (she did pay keep too) and she basically never spends any money on anything. She doesn’t go to her hairdressers, drive, go out much etc. She’s also been saving since being at school as she’s always wanted to get her own place, must be desperate to get away from us :rotfl::rotfl:boyfriend has a good job, but she will take any job so they can move out if nothing great pops up in the next year.
Pensions have not really been in my radar if I’m honest. My family does have a lot of property in trust which will form part of that (unless we just pass on down to the kids) I guess I’m more thinking of a more immediate “retirement” / dh going more part time by way of renting the factory and getting to keep the rent when the mortgage is gone (about 3&3/4 years I think) we know it’s sought after as one of our neighbours there offered him £500K for it last year and we only paid £200k in 2016 I believe it was. There’s a big shortage of good “green” commercial property here, but it’s all our eggs in one basket I guess! I don’t know, but I know it does need looking at....
Builder has shown up, sometime around lunchtime I believe, he is an odd one! After an awkward conversation about how doesn’t want to upset me, he’s said he will be here and do a full day everyday untilit’s done. I think I’m supposed to be grateful.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2 -

It gets better, he’s drilled in the dining room to hang the new radiator and made two holes through to the new kitchen, thank goodness through the wall and not the wall of units. Unbelievable! Was prepping dinner at the time and went to tell him, he said not to worry it’s minor and he can easily make good tomorrow. He has done work in my parents house years ago, and the quality was ok so I was more worried about his punctuality than anything, now I’m not so sure
