Hi mfd’s and greent, thanks and happy Xmas to you both :)

The jacket did sell greent, I put bids starting at £20 and somebody messaged to ask I for I would take offers, so I added the option to do that (minimum offer £33) and I got an offer of £40 :D that’s what I paid for it :T I did charge £5 postage but it cost about £8 with last minute wrap needing buying, I couldn’t have been more excited about the whole thing :rotfl:

Xmas went ok, Boxing Day was really hard work! I took the decs and tree down today, partly as it’s over now and partly as it all feels a little dusty still since the electrician covered everything last week and the tree was tricky to clean.

We did get some cash for Xmas from our parents - a total of £340 for the both of us and dh has agreed to pay it off the balance of the cruise in 2021 (£600 pp left to pay after £29pp deposit) it’s over half of one of us paid for and to be honest we would normally fritter the money away on not much.

£3.29 Tilly tidy made today. Saving money at the moment by not buying proper food and living off chocolate and more chocolate, I’m getting sick of it now :rotfl:

Oh dear, I’ve made an unwanted discovery today - the rubbish old laminate that is coming up in the conservatory is not wet due to the rain and dh walking in and out of the garden, or the cat, it’s because it’s wet underneath

Not good news as it’s a massive room - about 50sq m needed as the hallway which is also very old. We were planning on saving up and doing it at the end of the year but I feel it’s going to be more imminent than that :( dh is capable of laying it and we can use dads howdens discount to buy the same as in the new kitchen (without involving the builders) but even so I’m guessing over £1k as the skirting boards are missing or mismatched and we will need underlay stuff too :wall:

Thinking cap on now as there’s no way I’m messing with my 2020 mortgage op plans (when I’ve made them :rotfl:)

Back later with a way I can magically do this!

    Well so far I’ve got:

£340 xmas money that was coming off the cruise balance for 2021

    £54 in savings account

    £43.74 PayPal from selling jacket

£200 cruise spending money for May saved

£210 cash in secret savings envelope

Thats £847.74 so far, I’m thinking that a super frugal jan and maybe Feb will help as well as a bit of eBay selling. I should be getting a better idea of costs next week, Dad has a howdens discount account so I’m getting a quote :T

Why is it wet underneath? Is damp coming through from the ground and / or the waterproof membrane has eroded?

Sounds like a big job hope it doesn't scupper your plans too much. but at least your house will be all done

It’s a concrete floor in that section but dh thinks it’swhere he’s drilled a hole through to outside for outside lights, then the relatively new garden paving is a raised step , together with the heavy rain it has seeped in. Don’t want to rip it up until the money is in place to replace it as it’s one big room and I couldn’t bear the mess long term :o

Tensions are high as they often are after Xmas, dh is not happy about the floor or him having to do it, I do understand but he’s rebuilt a whole house before and is very capable of doing it. I’m happy to help but clueless so he will be doing the bulk of it.

Hope that work comes in under budget. It would be awful to change your 2020 financial goals/plans

    Hii cath, thanks

Argh just lost a huge post!

Well I’ve jiggled the budget and squeezed some more out :T Next years monthly budget for food and petrol is £560 pm with £170 pm for “fun” aka everything else :o

For January I’m not touching it and using the £340 cash that was going off the cruise balance , along with a few other adjustments the new total is £1339.77 for the flooring, that had better be enough

So I have the £340 plus £25 in my purse plus £47.50 owed from January’s Xmas pot (already ordered and paid for Harry Potter bath stuff in boots sale for presents next year!) a total of £412.50 until feb 5th when I can use the cc again, so £11.14 a day, certainly a challenge! If we can’t stick to it I’ll spend more as I don’t want to starve the troops, it’s a challenge that I’m choosing to do not a punishment for the family :rotfl:

There’s also four birthdays in January , I’ve a pot for the presents but not anything else, so will need to allow enough for a lunch or dinner out with best friend. A bit more selling on eBay may be required!

All going well though January’s first payment will still be made of £1634.24 including interest :money:

That will be a great first payment of the year. We're having a super tight January too due to having booked a holiday and not wanting to reduce our overpayments! I'm just hoping there's little enthusiasm for spending money over the next few weeks!

Good luck cath, January is always an easy month to cut back I find, if only I could keep up momentum as well for the rest of the year :o
