Pay off mortgage and start having fun!

Hopefully you can balance everything out. We had a tight month when I sent the standard £403 overpayment twice in a month but we did it! At least you've got a headstart on the 2021 cruise. I remember years ago having a payment card for a holiday I went on as a teenager. I used to pop into the travel agents and pay off the odd bit on payday.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

I guess timing wise we are lucky to currently have (hopefully!) the surplus left from the building work pot. I remember doing the same at the travel agents Cath, although I don’t remember having card for it. Nothing compares to the excitement of a drunken couple of weeks with friends in Greece as a teenager! Once I remember staying in a “twenties” hotel in Ibiza, scary stuff , furniture thrown in the pool at night and some dodgy characters :rotfl:
Top up shop today £41 plus £19 petrol, wiping out my £20 a day food and petrol budget until Friday. Drew out £160 cash for everything else for the month, usually it’s £180 but £20 has gone to the cruise pot. Ill also put £20 in the cash savings envelope for fun in the future when I need it
This month may be a little spendy but only with things planned for , Budapest for two nights with parking to pay for and spending money - budget £180 at the moment
Spa day next week so money for lunch perhaps, plus a Happy Monday’s gig with ds1 so drinks and tube fare.

I have a few days off now so it’s a good time for a to do list
- investigate opening a new current account if free cash is possible
- meal plan and organise a bonfire night dinner (without the fireworks!) on a budget for between 5 and 11 people for Saturday night.
- try and book then pay deposit for Halloween weekend in a cottage near to Alton towers for 2020
- read gas and electric meters and input
- look into sky Netflix cost
- eat free afternoon tea tomorrow using an unwanted voucher given by a colleague at work :T
- juggle accounts and make a new plan now I've accidentally paid for the cruise
- check what xmas presents I have and what I still need to buyMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Great night out last night with (the elusive) ds1 who took me to a happy mondays gig in Camden, the boys got me a ticket for mother’s day. Plenty of middle aged people drunk relieving their youth, but great fun
Taking aunt out for lunch today, only at c@sta with my points. I have spent money though, 2 pairs of M&S jeggings ordered yesterday, £2.50 off at topcashback, plus normal cashback plus 20% discount , so £10.65 per pair not £15 , and they are needed as my only pair have a hole. what wasn’t needed though was a bulk order of spiced orange Yankee candlesmy absolute favourite which I love burning every night in winter, usually £23.99 full price for a large one, I’ve got 2 large , 2 medium and 2 small for £46 delivered from QVC. :T
I will either squeeze it from my personal spends or more likely force dh to buy them for xmas (and then burn them before :rotfl:)
I shall start my to do list later!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hectic day yesterday, not too much more spending done, paid for lunch for aunt and I, but mum paid for my Indian takeaway last night when I came over to see both of them. I’ve aquired a huge tub of sweets from mums from Halloween as she didn’t get anybody , we had around 20 separate visits this year  Even better than that I’ve also been given two iPhone 7’s as my parents have upgraded :T mines a 6 and I think Dd will have the other one, great news as my speaker packed up years ago and I don’t like expensive phone contracts - except for the kids obviously :rotfl:
Off to the shops early to get food for tonight so I can get the slow cooker on early. Dh has left his keys at work so is lost and bored already :rotfl: I’ve loads to get done this weekend and wanted to start present wrapping at some point, but thats unlikely as there’s a LOT of washing to catch up on as I’ve been out in the evenings as well as days so it’s will be radiators on as well as heated airer all day.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Firework night with no fireworks went well last night, only 7 of us in the end, so a massive amount of chilli left! I over spent on the food so the food and petrol budget is now zero (well minus £13) until the new month starts on the 5th
but we can survive on chilli and chocolates until then :rotfl:
Dh is probably going to the cinema today, I should go with him really, but the thought of an almost empty house - just ds1 in bed is tempting, I would love to get stuck into the Xmas wrapping today as well as catch up with paperwork. I might see what he’s watching first...MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Back to work today unfortunately, Sunday was spent wrapping xmas presents, still, a few bits to get plus some bits for a xmas hamper -more xmas beer and chocolate than reindeer food and pyjamas like the old days :xmassmile
New budget starts today as the new cc bill is generated, it’s actually still £20 a day for everything as it was last month.
Better run as will be late for workMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
You're sounding very organised for Christmas Newgirly, I really need to get cracking. I did watch a Christmas film with ds whilst dd at football training last night though! Enjoyable but not at all productive!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

Hi Cath, it’s more like I’m panicking I’ll have to work more over December, plus it’s my busiest time catching up - like everyone I guess!
Hope you enjoyed the filmMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Very naughty evening, I’ve eaten a frozen veggie pizza and a whole packet of mini Xmas biscuits  weirdly I still lost weight this week (1.5lb) but that must be a fluke as I've had lots lately! It’s now one year since I quit alcohol, well one year last Saturday actually. I’ve surprised myself I’ve not gone back to it really but I can’t see me doing that now as it’s had such a positive impact and I regret not giving up years ago.
Tomorrow I’m off for a spa day with best friend which was booked and paid for in January I think, it just so happened to be this week so it seems like a celebration for myself for giving up the booze :T I’m a little nervous as it includes something called heat and ice - whatever it is it sounds scary! It’s a bit of a trek as its up in Northampton as well so an early start.
Grocery shopping today £59 + something pence, plus £15 yesterday. £5 op made as nothing much is happening latelyMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
