as well as saying they would set up premium bond savings and then said it was not possible as they were too old....
Not sure when they said this (or how long they took to get around to it) but grandparents/ parents can't buy PSB once children/ grandchildren are 16 - the account has to be run in the child's name then and funded by a cheque/ debit card transaction from a bank account in the child's name (We had a bit of hassle sorting it out when my mum gave the kids some money - 2 were 16+ so I had to get them involved in it themselves)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Hi greent , hope you are well
I did say that would be an option but it was just left
I had a brilliant night out at swan lake last night - an alternative version (Matthew bourne) which was different but wonderful. Today we are in York which is very pretty and festive at the moment.
I didn’t drive the whole way so had a bit of free time, this resulted in me booking more theatre ticketsgoing with best friend again, Aladdin in the stalls for £30 each in the new year sale :T I’m still kidding myself that the alcohol savings are paying for my social life :rotfl:

On the way home now, I’ve done the first diving shift. York was wonderful as usual, my aunt enjoyed her first visit and was no trouble. Dh has made a big effort, but my parents can be stressful  I am very aware to make the effort, I’m lucky as some of my friends have already lost a parent, but it was hard at times! Probably I would’ve be drinking normally and the irritations not as noticeable, but there was no hiding from it this weekend, it was all very passive aggressive
On the bright side I spent no money except £15 at the services :T dh bought me a coach leather evening bag for Xmas £175 down to £71.40  it’s plain black and tiny , but great for nights out in London as it’s easy to travel with, big bags get squished on the tube. My first proper stupidly expensive handbag
Time to write some to do lists now, don’t want to get too stressed this week - actually that’s really not possible :rotfl:MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Parents can be stressful, you totally have my sympathy there!

Hi vix, the more I’m mulling it over the more I’m annoyed, I shall let it fester as usual I should think though :rotfl:
I have still have to unpack  started sorting through presents and wrapping yesterday instead and finished at midnight with most of it done except missing the bits so I went out for today.
Bought some nice bits to do the cake this year, pale blue icing with snowflakes, silver shimmer and a penguin and polar bear :snow_laug
Just stripping the beds now and trying to tidy a bit, then out for a curry round a friends house to do our secret Santa swap.
The house is messy
There washing/ironing is not done
Dinner will be bacon sandwiches
The finances have not been checked for days and ive spent loads today
Next have not delivered a personalised necklace for mil which isn’t now two weeks late
Amazon won’t stop dropping me the flipping neighbours parcels, just said no to one twelve houses along! I don’t even know who they are, this morning I tried to drop one to next door and she didn’t answer even though I could see her through the glass
Phew , and breathe - it’s still a week away :eek:MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

2 doors up from us stopped speaking to us for no reason that we can fathom. Because we are nice people we took in a parcel for her. The bother we had trying to get it to her as she wouldn't answer or come to ours to collect. Eventually we gave it to a neighbour further away and she got it to her.
People are WEIRD !!! Learnt our lesson tho and wont be trying to be helpful again in the future for her.
Good luck with yours. Take a note with you next time and if ur sure she's there leave parcel in path and stick note thru door.

No advice for you about the passive-aggressive parents, I'm afraid. I'd be like you - let it fester and complain to others (that's me anyway) - terrible, I know!
I think you need to be more assertive with the Amazon delivery guys (maybe that advice works for both problems?!) - surely they can leave it out of sight on your neighbours' properties (that's what they do around here generally).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Hi Daisy , wow that was rude of your neighbour. Next doors parcel is still here! We have only once had a parcel delivered to theirs (forgotten to change to work address first) I went round with the card from Royal Mail in my hand, apologied profusely saying it was a one off and he replied “name” so I said oh I’m newgirly from 123 nextdoor to which he replied “surname” and then after I answered handed me the parcel :rotfl: people are odd  they are a very young couple too so it seems even weirder.....
Hi vix, I’m letting it fester, meeting best friend for a quick coffee xmas eve so she will get the brunt of my moaning :rotfl:
Work is crazily busy, dh has been getting home at midnight (starts at 6.30 ish) only up until xmas though - I hope! I’ve just finished for DECEMBER  there’s nothing I can go in to and do to help as my work is finished and I can’t do his so I’m free
I celebrated by eating loads of mince pies and biscuits at workI also bought Dd and best friend some Xmas flowers on the way home - best friend has agonising tooth infection and has just been put on strong anti biotics over Xmas and Dd was great looking out for ds2 during his traumatic bout of man flu this week while I was at work. :rotfl:
Spending has been rife this week, nothing unplanned but three supermarket trips so far, Still lots to get though.
I’ve cancelled the London afternoon tea tomorrow and booked a local one as aunt and mum would probably prefer it and to be honest it will free me up some time, plus it’s under £30 for two so much cheaper.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I’ve been for a small top up shop today afternoon the very nice afternoon tea. £22 spent on -
Stilton
Brie
Bottle of champagne
3x big glass bottles of mint and cucumber tonic
Xmas tree pretzels
Long matches
Snowman toilet rolls
I had to list it as I can’t believe how cheap it’s all wasthe champagne was on offer at £9.99 so that helped.
Not sure how well the champagne and cheese will go down with some my family, they are bringing some cheese with them (probably incase mine is from Aldi :rotfl:) Any ungrateful comments will be duly noted though and refered to when compiling future guest lists
I’m not sure why but I seem to be doing well financially this month, although food and drink for Christmas will be £££, the days and nights out (of which there have been many!) have all come in way under budget. :T Not drinking has probably balanced out the cost of hosting Christmas Day if I’m honest! It seems I should come up with some kind of frugal challenge for January - perhaps living off the surplus cash if there’s a realistic amount left after the xmas food shop is done....
Xmas cake iced and living room blitzed including curtain washing - this is a rare occourencejuts the rest of the house to to sort and the food and I’m good to go.
Work do tomorrow and our new bosses are paying (not attending though) I’ll be ferrying drunk men around all night and taking home the ones who don’t stay in our living room, it will be strange to not be roaring drunk on my xmas night out!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
