If you like the smell but no one likes the cake, have you tried making mincemeat for your own mince pies? That smells like Christmas too and it was much quicker/easier than making cake. I used Mary Berry's recipe (I've never made it before) - it was really simpleMortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Quick trip to the shops to get new tight shops and socks for the cruise, plus a nice hot chocolate I wouldn’t normally have due to the calories, but now I don’t drink I have spareMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Phew, busy week, op yesterdayday £2 and today £1.
Dd has been thinking about applying for a post grad course at a specialist place in London when she finishes uni. It has an 85% success rate at graduates getting employed in the industry straight away, and as she knows herself and has been told by many organisations (theatres, events managemant companies etc.) she is at at a big disadvantage not being privately educated.....
She wants to use some of her savings and take a loan out to pay for it if she does decide it’s the best route , it’s £8k for a 6 month course  So we have basically said we will pay for it. She’s paid for uni with a student loan to cover tuition so far and never took the extra loan element to live off and has worked, so I think she deserves it
So mortgage plans may well hit yet another hurdleand to think this time last year I was all ready to be mf in April 2019!
Ds2 is apparently seriously considering uni next year and ds1 says he’s tempted after visiting his friend in Sheffield for a boozy weekend, although he did admit he may want to go for the wrong reasons :rotfl: so far they have been working part time at a company near us.
We will have to wait and see I guess!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Just got in from best friends hubbys 50th, great night and didn’t even spend any money as he did a free bar all night, plus I drove home
We are off tomorrow morning and I’ve not finished packing or cleaning the house yet  I can’t get to sleep anytime soon as ds2 is cooking pizza whilst fairly drunk so I’m making sure he turns the oven off! I may have been driving but the kids and dh certainly made most of it tonight.
Ive made a £5 op to cover £1 a day op for today and while we aren’t away.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

Hi newgirly. I just wanted to pop in to say hi. I am new to the MFW boards. I am finally in a position next month where I can start over paying my mortgage so wanted to read a few diaries for inspiration. I started on yours and haven’t read anymore yet. I have been reading for hours and only got to page 23. I skip to the last page and suddenly the kids are in uni lol.
Firstly I admire that you have started this diary and nearly 9 years later you are still keeping up to it. That’s amazing and I hope I have the dedication and motivation to do that to.
Wow nearly 100k down in 9 years. That’s inspiring, I don’t think that I’ll be able to do anything near that even half of that would be amazing.
I see your off on a cruise. Have an amazing time. I’ve done 2 now and I love it.Make £10 a day in May- £90/£1500 -
Hi Helen , I feel like I owe you a few hours of your life back :rotfl:
Seriously though definitely a diary is the way to go to help stick to it, the people on here are amazing and are the only reason I’m still going, thanks so much for reading
Well the curse of the newgirly cruise continues! After a Southampton round trip to Southampton in July (not via guernsey....) we have managed to miss bruge as the train from the local town was cancelled due to a jumper, we then missed Amsterdam due to high wind yesterdayto make up for it (apparently) we stopped at Cherbourg today instead which was rather disappointing and very wet! Luckily however I’d booked spa access for the last day for the first time  much to dhs dismay! £50 for two, but worth it as it’s really cheered me up
Even with the spa and also £28 spent on chocolate this morning we we should be way under our usual spending as I am still alcohol free :T
I wasn’t sure if I would manage it on a cruise , however I feel like it’s something I really need to do full time now, I feel soooo much better already and now realise that I really was drinking way too much sometimes.
