You're so right about people putting others in boxes and being confused when they jump out of them! But that's no reason not to and not to tell them that you have - perhaps not shouting it aloud as people might think you're rubbing their noses in it (I'm not suggesting that this is what *you'd* do NG!), but otherwise you're not being your true self if you hide such a big thing from people!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

NG - This reminds me a little of our wedding day. We were fortunate enough to have had donations from both of our dad's to ensure we had the day we wanted. Thanks to the lovely people on the weddings thread and my own spreadsheet enjoyment I had worked out how much everything would cost and tweaked it whenever anything changed, we saved the shortfall to ensure everything was paid and we could enjoy the day not having to worry where we would find the money to pay it off. My BIL commented that our wedding must have cost a fortune and that we would have a huge loan for it. We didn't say anything, just looked at each other and smiled a knowing smile.
It is entriely up to you who you share your excitement with when the time comes. We are living in a different time to our parents where people do have to give some thought to their later years, whether it be savings, pensions, being mortgage free or all three., hopefully when the time comes they will be more supportive, at least to support you. Alternatively you can decide not to tell anyone and have the knowing smiles we had at our wedding when people ask how you can afford to go on so many holidays, have the cars you want, eat out etc.
I only have one friend I would tell about it and my parents as I don't believe anyone else would understand even though I know a lot of my friends are overpaying.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1530/£2700

Let others judge all they like NG, there is nothing like waking up in your home and knowing it's all yours

Hi GG didn't spot this post earlier, thanks for that and I hope you are well and enjoying your mortgage free home
Hi Aj, well done paying for the wedding up front, i think a lot of people just don't enjoy financial planning and live for today. It's a shame it's still not really a "cool" thing to do
Hi the madvix, not sure if we tell anyone when the day finally comes, depends who it is I guess!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

What's his is yours though no? That's how's it works with my dh
Right, well weight loss not going well so I'm doing something drastic and joining a slimming club next week  my best friend has asked me to go with her about 1000 times before and I've said no, but perhaps it's time to try it.
Currently swinging towards slimming world as I don't like the idea of the WW products so much , it seems a bit more of a hard sell and I want a longer term fix rather than a short term one. We are both (best friend not dh!) veggie and still want to eat out sometimes. I'm also a big fan of crisps and wine which I need to wean myself offany thoughts or suggestions on which would work best are greatly received

When I joined SW I dismissed WW as you had to count points if you ate an apple - which seemed wrong! I think they have changed now though.SaveA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi NG, I can highly recommend SW. I lost four stone last year, and I have managed to keep it off. My understanding is that WW were losing ground to SW so have tweaked their weight loss plan. I'm no expert though! Crisps are the devil's food, and both crisps and wine are my down fall too. Good luck, I certainly feel so much better and healthier.

Hi newgirly, I track my macros on MFP. You could do calories if you prefer but macro tracking has better results. I think HDK lost her weight through running and MFP. If you want something sustainable then educating yourself and gaining control over your food choices is the way to go. PM me if you want to know more about it. It will cost a lot less than a slimming club.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
