Hi cath, I feel pretty settled here it's just I worry about space if we are a family of adults here for years - which is what I am sure will happen :o

Hi the madvix, I will tell dd to take a look thanks, I have a feeling it's an apple one she is after though! At least we can get a staff discount so it could be worse.

The house would have been more like £150k more than ours after selling costs I think, it seems a lot but is a lot bigger downstairs and I think we will have he kids at home long term  you don't upset me by mentioning they may move on soon by the way :rotfl:

Anyway, I've had a money shuffle around today and extended the term I'm aiming for by a month, it will now cover the items I'm not saving for :

    Dds new laptop

    Xmas 2017

Tax bill around £900 in Jan 2018

All 3x kids birthdays in July 2018 - one 21st and two 18ths all within 13 days :T well planned hey ;)

We spent a total of £500 on dds 18th and will do the same for them all this time, I'm also hoping they will have a joint party, possibly hiring a party boat on the Thames :D

I know it seems a lot to spend, but they have not exactly had a lavish childhood so I want to spoil them all.

Clearly one extra mortgage payment doesn't allow for at lot, I'd already factored in the tax bill and Xmas in my calculations origionally.

Staff discount on the laptop makes sense I guess - at least it won't be full price! Apple prices are scary!

You're forgetting the fact that if you make the kids too comfortable (i.e. a bigger bedroom), they might never leave!! ;)

Plans sound very sensible - you have very lucky children on the birthday front! :)

Not much to report today, had a meal and a couple of cocktails last nights with my best friend, it turned out cheaper than expected as I go at a vouchercode for a free bottle of prossecco at Prezzo and she ordered a veggie pasta dish and it had chicken in it so they got her another dish and didn't charge. Gross but mse :money:

Saw the Inlaws today and went for a quick sandwich at a local pub very near work where they came to visit us and my cheese sarnie came with a few roast potatoes and a giant Yorkshire pudding and gravy  I gave that to dh, very strange though!

Apart from spending on eating out I've been quite good :o

Your children are certainly very lucky re. birthdays. :)

Re. moving, you do seem to be regularly looking. Is it just curiosity or do you think you actually want to move? If I were you, I think I'd be leaving it until you get the mortgage paid then think about moving - do you want the commitment of another mortgage etc.?

I wouldn't say you really know whether you will have your children at home long-term or not as there are more factors than money that contribute to your children leaving - job, not wanting to live with parents etc.

As for the electric car, I thought you called yourself a car enthusiast? ;)

The kids don't usually have that much spent on the, (or anywhere even vaguely near!) it's just something I always planned on doing as a one off as they all have big birthdays so close.

As for the moving, I love looking at houses and should probably been an estate agent :D I don't think we ever will actually move due to the cost of living in the very limited roads I would like to live, which I know make sure me sound like a diva :o

The electric car would clearly be a cost cutting method to free up money to buy something more fun for he summer ;)

    18, 16, 16?

I don't spend a lot on birthdays / Christmas at all. Though, my son is currently happy with things I've (or wife has) made for him and practical things - music etc. I dread him getting older and wanting expensive gifts. Mind, I'm looking forward to restoring a car with him over his teenager years, he'll get parts for his birthday / Christmas and that'll hopefully stop him from wanting a computer of his own! :D

No, just southern. :p;) :rotfl: Seriously, I imagine it's the kind of place that you can drive to a few roads away and suddenly not be in a nice part of town.

    I'm liking your reasoning. :)

    What are you thinking of?

He kids will be 18/18/21 in space of 13 days July 2018  they don't usually want much , recently its tickets for concerts mainly.

Good luck having a teenager that doesn't want his own computer though!

Where we live it's very nice, its just we can't afford to live in the vast majority of our town as it's stockbroker prices, hence the extended terrace, but there are no council estates or tower blocks etc. It's Essex commuter belt :D there are no rough parts (unlike where our factory is which is a new build in an "up and coming" east London borough) , but even that is not too bad, the old factory was in Upton Park, now that could be scary at night!!

Are your sons studying for A Levels now? I can't believe my son is 6 ... dread to think what I'll be like when he's taking GCSEs, I'm too much of an embarrassment now. :o

:rotfl: Everyone says I'll fail with the computer. I used to be deadly serious about it but now I don't suppose I'll mind too much if he wants one. Through working in schools, I've realised they use computers an awful lot. I don't want my son to be ostracised.

May be no tower blocks but I bet there's plenty of white Escort XR3is? :rotfl: ;)

Yes they started in September and are doing a combination of a levels and BTEC. Sadly your ds will be at college before you know it!

No xr3i's here now , although my parents had a couple back in the day, (red and black not white) even my gran bought herself a white brand new sierra 2.0 injection special which she passed onto me, I once beat a Porsche at the lights in it, a fair bit faster than you might expect. Sadly it's all white land/range rovers round here now, very dull.
