What was going to be a low key cheap weekend isn't really (for dh anyway!) I popped round to see my parents last night and ended up staying for a curry and a lot of wine, dh joined me later on and then the kids and dds boyfriend turned up on their way back from an evening visit to the Tate, just what you want 6 unexpected guests :rotfl: only dh and I had takeaway and he paid - £20.
Dh has also booked Prezzo for the two of us tonight as an early birthday treat  we are going for drinks first apparently. To be honest I would be happy in front of the tv tonight, but he is still working 7 days a week for the next few weeks at least and I get the feeling he wants to go out which is fair enough! The only thing spoiling it for me is there are no vouchers valid for a SaturdayI can't remember the last meal out in a chain restaurant without a voucher
he is paying and never bothers with vouchers, it still killing me though!
Attempted mortgage end date has now been made a bit closer, getting rid of the Xmas /birthday budget and reducing the amount we live off has given a new hopefully (or pie in the sky....) end date of August 2018 , which is 18 months from now :j
Don't tell anyone but if I get any birthday money it may be tucked away for birthdaysThe kids have all decided they want to go to reading festival this year so I need to save real cash towards that rather than buying presents every now and then to put away. They will all be working and selling stuff to help pay for it though, they could do with a bit of tough love

£3,000 reduction this month is brilliant, NG.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
We had a great night out, we were having cocktails when my best friend and her dh arrived, dh had arranged it as a surprise
Today I've been ironing for the last few hours, it had built up into a large mountain sized pilestill a way to go but I'm getting there. Not buying anything still until I can use the cc, I've just had a rummage in the freezer and taken out some mince to make spag Bol later, might make a curry or pasta dish with whatever is in the fridge.
Had a quick chat with dh last night before we went out about the mortgage and choosing to up the anti as it were with trying to clear it asap rather than add on a few more months.
I don't think he is too bothered either way! He's happy for me to get on with it though. I can't wait to prove him wrong in a way, as just before I first joined mse and told him we will be paying the mortgage off in 12 years or less he just laughed and said no way could we ever manage that. At the time we were in debt by tens of thousands and had a massive mortgage still withh something like 33 years to run, and we were broke and putting food on the credit card.
I'm just so grateful to have found the mfw boardMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
How lovely of your dh.
You really have made brilliant progress with the mortgage and your February reduction is fantastic!
Is it all systems go with clearing the balance now? Think of how good it's going to feel when it's gone!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi cath, it is all systems go now
I feel quite motivated at the moment but past experience shows that this doesn't often last long, so I'm making the most of it while I do :rotfl:
Got a free £10 Argos voucher yesterday, bought a £10 Argos voucher from zeek for £9.60 , used a £5 off vouchercode and did it through tcb for I believe £.5.55 cash back. It needs to be spent by May this year but that's fine as it's going towards some Lego for a friend's Dds birthday.
Only spending done since Friday (except the voucher) is £1.29 on milk. Heating off all weekend too :snow_grin it was fine , it's not THAT coldMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Sounds like a lovely birthday treat NG!
Warm enough here that we didn't have heating on either - it makes such a difference!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Another cheap day again, I took ds2 to see hidden figures at the cinema tonight which was OK, for the first time ever we were the only ones there, it's strange as I always check online before we go to see how busy it is and there were about 20 ish seats filled, I guess people book online with passes and then don't show up.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

Manic busy few days, work has been soooo tiring, I ache all over is week
It's my birthday today and the kids have been really sweet, red roses and chocolates from ds1, a Hannibal series boxed set from ds2 and a make up bag from dd
I have been going to bed after a shower and dinner each night at about 8pm, tonight I was hoping for wine and tv in my pjs , however I forgot that dds boyfriend is in another round of the pub singing competition and we agreed to go again. It's selfish but at 7pm -12 I am not looking forward to it
In mortgage oping news there may be a change again! The council rang today to ask if I still want a garage  after being told it could be 30 odd years as it's harder to get a garage than a council house , one has come along and everybody on the list above me is over the 1.5 mile restriction zone. I would rather be paying for it after we are mortgage free and at £17.50 a week it's not cheap , but I feel like it may be a mistake to lose it.
We have 2 spaces on our drive but one is for the work van, we don't currently have restrictions right outside but they are a few doors along and keep spreading out further. It would be a solution to our storage problems as we could clear out the log cabin and get rid of the kids down there more often
I'm going to view it tomorrow at 10am but I think I will be saying yes to it, long term having a garage literally 2 mins walk away would be such a bonus, we used to have one in the garden but knocked out down as it took up half the space and the kids had no room.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Happy Birthday - not everyone gets a garage from the Council for their birthday:rotfl:
I would be tempted to take the garage if you think you will use it, you don't know how long you will have to wait for the next opportunity.MortgageStart Nov 2012 £310,000
