We had a good night out last night, a couple of drinks in the new cocktail bar up the road, then the pizza express valentine meal deal with a free bottle of prosecco. Dh also had to drink this after his one beer, as beer in pizza express is £6.40 for a normal sized bottle  crazy! He paid for it all :T we got a lift up the road from dds boyfriend and a bus home as there were no black cabs, it was a cold wait mind :snow_laug

I've just checked the bank account and cc transactions, not great news as I have spent way too much ch this month. Takeaways, £46 in ikea yesterday (new floor lamp and wine glasses) £77 in mr t just on food and drink mainly for today as I've asked my parents for lunch.

End result is £24 left to spend on the cc until 1st march and - £2.50 in the bank :(

I will need money for food, petrol and probably oyster top up again too! I'll change up some of the savings I put in premium bonds last month after having a frugal January.

I don't seem to be able to resist having a splurge from time to time, let's hope that's it for the moment though.

In better news my mum rang yesterday to tell us they had booked the four of us train tickets to York at the end of April , apparently as they were so cheap (£8) they didn't bother asking us first! Then I got a text saying they have booked a hotel for two nights and are paying as a birthday present for me :T Happy days :D

  • I'm glad you had a good night. I do like pizza express but those bar prices are crazy aren't they. Did you get your machine machine fixed?

Hi spamtastic, I think you may have mixed me up with cath who's washing machine isn't working :D

Good day today, cooked lunch for my parents and ate and drank a bit too much, then watched a few hours of bates motel with ds2 as the new series starts soon, a lovely lazy day.

It's MoT day today  dh is taking it to the while u wait place near work as we have left it right until the old one expires. I hope he fits the brake light I bought before he takes it though, If it passes it will cost £30, we have had far more fails than passes over the years with all out cars mind :rotfl:

I think when we are mf I might get an electric car, now they have been around a bit longer you can get some more reasonably priced ones second hand, we already have a charger on the drive for the work van (Nissan) so it could be a possibility. My dad lives round the corner (and has too many cars!), so if we did need to go further we could borrow one of his really. No tax and petrol would be handy :)

    Plans for today:

Go to shops with mum and take back lots of stuff I splurged on last week :o

    Do washing/ironing

    Book dentist for kids

    Start decluttering the kitchen cupboards

How was the MOT NG? Mine was yesterday too, and amazingly passed first time, for the first time in a very long time! Hope yours did too!

My friend has a Nissan Leaf and loves it. You do have to watch the charge on it though - she's very happy-go-lucky and has had to wait to be rescued quite a few times! Or are you thinking of a Tesla? My DH would love one of those!

  • NG have you thought of setting up a splurge fund? You know that you like to splash out once in a while so could you put a bit away each month so if you really want to buy some stuff you can.

Hi the madvix, it failed on a tyre so £60 for a "budget" new one and £30 mot fee, it's a success really! Glad yours passed too :D

Was thinking of a leaf as (although wouldn't mind a tesla is somebody else buys it :rotfl:) think I would be ok with the battery as we are used to being careful with the electric van we have and have a fast charge on the drive.

Hi lady gnome, I used to have a fun fund but dropped it as we are trying to pay off the rest pretty quickly. It would be sensible probably :)

Dd has decided she will buy the lap top she needs, her boyfriend can get a discount but it will still cost £0000  she wants to pay half and my dad has also offered to buy it for her too, so we are in negotiation, with three of us trying to pay!

Almost booked to view a house nearby :eek: brilliant location still near the shops and bus.

Plus points i.e. Better than ours

4th bed bigger than ds1's shoe box

Built in garage (could be converted to another room/bedroom)

    Utility room

    Bigger mostly brick conservatory

    Massive garden

    Downstairs extra bathroom

Very good price for what you get

    Could be extended even more

Minus points i.e. Worse than ours :

    Terrible state!

Needs a few walls knocking through

Loft conversion has no bathroom and is smaller

    Very close to parents :rotfl:

    Cost to move £33,500 ish

Price around £100k more than ours not including costs

Dh wants to view it as its such a good price, but for a start I dont even know if we can get a mortgage and also the thought of moving and starting again is rather overwhelming. It's a great house though and would make life a lot more comfy being so many of us!

What should I do? If I view I will want it!

Well descision made - we are staying!

I rang at 4pm to book to view (5.15pm today) , we waited 20mins in the rain, No estate agent, I called to ask where they were and (clearly the same guy) answered and said I should have rung him to confirm the appointment and that it sold 20mins before  it's been up for a few weeks at least. Im so annoyed as it's an elderly person who has moved in with his dd and who would accept an offer with another viewer on their way, estate agents........

How frustrating but everything happens for a reason :)

I was a massive RM addict and been so unsettled here but even though work not finished, I can't ever imagine moving now.

Sounds like a good result on the MOT NG. Yes, DH can keep dreaming about the Tesla too!

Is DD after something fancy (i.e. Apple) then? If not, she might want to consider PC Specialist - I've just bought a new laptop from them and am very pleased. I use it for work and wanted to spec it - they were much more flexible than what's available in the shops and the service was really good. And my laptop, while expensive (but it's a work thing) was only ~£600. (I'm not on commission, just a very pleased customer!) I guess it depends what she wants it for though.

It's a pity about the house - but was it worth another £100k of mortgage.... when you're so close to freedom?! (And bearing in mind that maybe the children won't be living at home full-time for all that much longer - sorry, don't want to upset you, but it's a possibility!).
