Will do shs, too busy at the moment to sort it out though. Dd very upset again tonight, horrid boy at college being very unpleasant. Not sure if the stress is the cause of her illness or its all just making her feel worse. She never has time off sick , so either way she is not herself at all.
Have offered to go to college and strangle said boy, sorry I meant meet with tutor to discuss , but she will go alone if I know her!
I really really want to stay home with her tomorrow, even though she is 18 I feel like I should be looking after her
Anyway on a brighter note, no car accidents today and I have heat in the car once more  I ate less than my allowed cals , by about 50 too which is always a bonus.
The boys went to my parents to watch the football tonight, it's funny as ds2 hates football but they ordered pizza in so he fancied watching a game :rotfl: they managed to wrangle a large each and bought the rest home.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Car back in for mot work today and I am supposed to be out for dinner with the girls tonight as its one of their birthdays , at the "towie" place I went to before xmas again, it's all going to cost money! Not exactly the frugal January I had planned
After reading eds thread I am slowly worrying more about our retirement. We have never had the money due to debts/kids etc. in the past to make anything other than token payments to tiny pensions. We also have to prioritise the mortgage as the term is short and not extendable.
We also have the pressing problem of having to pay for the rest of the money owed on the factory we bought last year (paid 200k owe about 80k) we couldn't get a business mortage so have a io loan on the 80k.
The business has new big contracts coming early this year and costs have been cut a lot more in the last few months, we are now getting into a better place financially.
I guess I am wondering how much we will need to put by for a pension? The current rental value on the factory is 25k a year minimum which would be worse case scenario if the company is no longer trading when we retire. Unlike residential rentals the tenants pay for their own repairs etc. so it's just voids to worry about, which are highly unlikely long term in the location and because of the type of property it is.
We still need to supplement that , but how much is the right amount? Especially as we can't do,too much until, the mortgage is gone. Ideally I would prefer to help the kids out too.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Not impressed with the restaurant last night, their set menu included one choice for a veggie starter - butternut squash ravioli and one for main - butternut squash ravioli ?!!
I did ask to substitute something else and they walked off without responding but did it , and then billed us for an extra starter anyway, terrible! (Obviously we complained and got a reduction), can't believe you have to book months in advance for a weekend table.
I am itching for payday now, it's not until the 24th, it just seems sooo long since dec's one. Grocery spends still ok, petrol budget good as not much driving after xmas, and a surplus comng this month of a few hundred :T I might put some by to do some work in dds bedroom, it could do with everything ripping out , plastering and the whole works really. Plus she has our old double bed and mattress from 20 years ago!
Need to cost it all out first, we don't ever employ people to work on the house usually , hence why it needs plastering as dh did it first time round as one of his first attempts many years agoI am guessing about £3/400 in outer london for a room, it's about 13x13 ft.
It seems I want to have a year of mad oping, and have a nice holiday, and do work on the house. Clearly all these things are not possibleMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hi NG
i sense another big shakeup in the plans coming now you have started worrying about pensions ? I would suggest you can leave that for another few years - keep plugging away at the mortgage, however I really really suggest that anything spare on top get rid of those credit cards as they keep popping up as an issue for you every so often giving you worry about transferring them and getting new rates etc etc- if you don't have another 0% rate they are going to start costing you serious money that will stop you o/ping the mortgage by us much as you wish. Once you have them out the way then you can think about saving for a pension - as you say, you have the building that can be rented out if required in the future. Then and only then should you begin to think about "helping the kids" - they are perfectly able to help themselves when the time is right same as you did and we all did. I know its a cliche but cliches become well known cos they are true - you appreciate the better times only when you have had to struggle through the more hard up times. If you get everything handed to you you simply don't appreciate it. Don't they say the 1st generation works hard and goes from rags to riches but it only take to the 3rd generation to go from riches back to rags as that generation don't appreciate all the hard work it took to get "there" and they don't know how to stay there.
All advice as ever sent with love and admiration for all you have have achieved over the last few years.
