Lovely meal last night, never seen so much food at an indian restaurant, my family certainly know how to eat and drink, goodness knows what the bill cost
Off to visit gran again today, she has just moved hospitals. Then its back to list eric on ebay, can't find any leads for phones or cameras at the moment. But sunday night is the best time to end an auction apparently.
Diet not going well, I have ground to a bit of a halt this week, need to get back on track next week , ditto the drinking, especially last night.
Dh is at work again today, we may have a possibilty of another large well paying job coming our way , lots of maybes but no definates yet. I might try and have a quick chat if he is in the mood re our finances. He is not interested in the bills etc. and lets me just get on with it,but we are doing ok the last few months and it will show him that all my constant "i don't have any money" was for a good reasonMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

Car bore stuff again
I have been to look at a new car. Now I'm trying to decide whether long term if it is worth switching the zafira. The new car is a suzuki celerio, 5 seats , 5 door small ish family car, 1.0 litre
So, pros :
£0 car tax
Kids can drive in future
Slightly cheaper ins.
Can do up to over 80mpg :T- will more than halve petrol costs
Nice and new so less in repairs
Cons:
Cost, need to take about one and a half months of mortgage paynents to buy outright with mini and zafira cash too.
smaller for driving friends and work collegues on days out
How it appears to staff
So as accurate as i can estimate costs :
Based over 6.5 years (basically mortgage term)
Cost to buy £6,649
Minus mini and zafira ( hopefully min.4k)
Extra cost £2,649
Petrol savings : £3,380
Tax £1332.50
Ins. £780
Misc.- services for both and mots minus 3 yrs for the new car , greater repair costs for old car which is bigger and 7 yrs older.
£2275 not sure if this is too high or low.
Total £7,767
Origionally i was looking at an older (10 yr ) fiesta or equivelant but they are stillaround £3500 ish and dearer to run.
Does anyone have thoughts on whether I am being an idiot ?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
To be honest NG it sounds to me like you've got the 'itch' to spend again on something 'new and shiny'. You could get a good second hand car for the money from the zafira and mini and not have to worry about depreciation.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
Mortgage Balance = £0

Maybe GG! Struggling to find a second hand five seater with such low running costs though, the cheapest nearly new one of these is only £150 cheaper than the best price brand new one. I can get a different second hand car but I am not sure what would compare cost wise overthe time frame taking into account the ultra low running costs.
Any suggestions welcome and I will drive just about anything ( whilst clearing the mortgage , after that it will be something special) at the moment I am swinging between downsizing to a small engine "bangernomics" style car and getting this new one at higher cost but possibly lower long term cost.
Anyway, eric is listed. Ds2 took the photos and my brother has just added them. Well he has added three out of the twelve or so taken, the worst three :rotfl: I shall ask him have another go tomorrow at work. He is a 1984 mini mayfair , pale blue metallic paint 99p start price if anyone wants a nose
Ahhhh, 1st bid of 99p, I don't think I can handle the stress/excitement/disappointment of watching this all week!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
NG: I've just realised I haven't responded yet re. Eric. I'm sorry, been far too wrapped up in my own world (not in a good way, either). I'm with GG regarding the car situation because the mpg saving will only be lost in depreciation.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
No worries at all Alex, I've not set a proper starting price or buy it now but have put a reserve so it should find the right level. Hope you are ok
Still looking on ebay/gumtree for possible options, everything seems so expensive or very high mileage. Understand thoughts on the new car but, its much cheaper in every way not just the the mpg. Its early days yet, I have weeks of research to do.must stop looking at old jags and early bmws though that is the opposite of moneysaving :rotfl:
Great news though, yesterday on the outskirts of town I spotted a "Pick your own pumpkin" field :j. Wow , In my wildest dreams I never imagined they exsisted :rotfl: Last year my boring kids didn't want a party (again) so we spent a couple of days carving vomiting pumpkins and the like , three seperate trips to the farm to buy extra pumpkins to display on tbe porch roof.
I am taking this as a sign, halloween is on a saturday this year and the last time we had a big party was on the last saturday halloween (65 people indoors )
Plus its on my bucket list - host a halloeeen do.
Now I need to.decide how far to go:
1). Sensible like a normal person, a fancy dress family curry night and a few pumpkins.
2). Get a bit carried away with tbe decorations and have 20 + teens
3). Go crazy and ask everyone we know for a massive do and spend a week turning the house into a haunted castle, with food and drink to buy too.
My best friend bought masses of seriously good stuff a couple of years ago so I could borrow it all to decorate I am sureMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
From what you told me, it sounds like a good little car. Hopefully you'll have no trouble selling it.
Jaguars probably aren't a good idea if you're looking for cheap(ish) motoring, most are sub-20 mpg. However, there's plenty of nice old BMWs around. How about something like a very low mileage E30 or E36 3 Series, there's also the E28 or E34 5 Series, if you get a 2.0ltr one it'll do about 30mpg and will cost you very little to buy. There's also the earlier E21 and E12, like both of those but very rare. My pick would be the E28, they are starting to look rather attractive and aren't so hard to find as the E21 or E12.
Completely different suggestion ... what about a Triumph 2000 saloon / estate or Rover P6?
As for halloween, forgot that's not too far away.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Nice Alex but noooooo! I want to cut running costs, the twins will want to learn in a couple of years so it should be a little hairdryer unless we run two cars (plus the work van).
This is a purely economical descision this time, I am trying to think of the long time costs of running a car, still unsure of the most frugal option, new ultra low cost to run or banger thats cheap to buy and dearer to run, crystal ball rerquired then.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
What is an escape room? Just googled it and all I can find is video games. Love the haunted banquet idea. Have you seen there is a halloween thread yet? its on the xmas boardMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
