Pay off mortgage and start having fun!

I was going to say go for it to. I am sure you have worked out what you would be paying with extra added onto mortgage and then what difference OP's would make and it probably makes financial sense?
I guess the main thing as others have said is that you need the space now and even if it did cost you a little extra in interest it would still be worth it. I think between us all we can give some tips to help 'up the ante' with out OP efforts. Bring on the surveys!!!
Re: ebay. I have bought loads of DD clothes (NEXT only due to long lasting quality) and am more than impressed with my bargains.
Yikes at the cost of uniforms! I have all that to come!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Another "do it now!" opinion!!
I think others have made good points- if it's about space as the kids grow , you probably are better off now then paying it off (as long as affordibilty isnt an issue ) ... Id bet youll be more motivated to do that than to scrimp and save for it whilst at the same time feeling pushed for space all the time...
and youre way ahead of many people in getting to grips even with the idea of what a mortgage costs and benefits of OPing !0 -
Thanks everyone for your support, Its now just down to whether the bank will lend us the amount, it should be ok hopfully as they said they will take all of dh's overtime into account.
In the absence of the mfw board today I have had to venture outside
We went round a friend of dh's house to look at the loft conversion that he has had done which is nearly finished. It looked good, but a bit smaller than i expected, dh said ours should be quite a bit bigger. I must dig out the origional measurments and sketches we had done a year ago to see what our sizes will be.
I have'nt checked in on my surveys today yet, but have saved some money as I was going to get a curry for tonight from mr a but could'nt get a parking space so came home! I have now chucked a chilli in the sc, just need dh to pop round the corner and buy some rice as we are out of it and maybe slip a bottle of red in too. I'm looking forward to putting on my snuggly pjs, eating and drinking and watching primeval tonight.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
So when are you hoping to hear from the bank if you can go ahead? Hope you aren't kept waiting in limbo!
As CathT said, check out the NEXT clothes for sale on ebay...you really can get some terrific bargains - just try to go for the 'well known and good makes' and you should come up trumps.
Mmm, am going to join you on the 'snuggling down' tonight - dressing gown and slippers for me :rotfl:sex kitten that I am!! I've finally started my own diary on MFW so am officially in your gang...
Cheers..enjoy that bottle of red x"A smile takes but a moment...

Thanks mummalove.
Have had a nice day today, it was my Aunts birthday so my mum cooked a roast which was wonderful (so much better when someone else cooks it!) so a NSD for me for the first time in ages. I need to go through what I've spent in the last week as I think it may be way too much and I still have my v. expensive night out on friday to pay for yet.
Nothing much happening on surveys, but did get a vo voucher for tescos £10 this week. Have been trawling through ebay looking for clothes, dd wants a new glam party dress, she found one she likes by lipsy which was second hand, I was going to bid on it, need'nt have bothered though as it ended up going for £51. Unbelievable. How does she sniff out the clothes that cost a packet, she does'nt take after me with my primarni wardrobe
I think I'll try and get an early night and get up early tomorrow to go through the bank accounts before the kids wake up.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
eek! only £113 left until next month and 2 pairs of football boots and a big night out to pay for, plus food and petrol. I can't see me sticking to budget this month. Will rummage the freezer, but thats not going to feed us for that long! I think I'll have to borrow from next months money, and then try and have a very quiet february. Come on tcb, i need a payout please.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

I have decided to do an online shop at mr t today. I was hoping they would take the gift cards i had from VO, but unfortunatly not. I spent about £38 including delivery which is crazy compared to a usual online shop. I got mostly value store cupboard stuff, like beans / tomatoes / pasta /rice etc. as well as a huge sack of spuds. delivery was only £3 which I thought not too bad. So now I'm left with £75 for the rest of the month, plus about £12 in tesco vouchers.
I have been good and chopped up and frozen all veg in the fridge, put the Bm on and made a swede soup in the sc. To be honest that was only as I had DD off sick today so was stuck indoors.
So feeling quite positive, although DD has found a dress on ebay that she loves, the same make as the one she found yesterday, her size with tags on still, it has 3 hours to go still and is up to £12 +£3 P&P, the tag still has £70 on it and I know she really wants it but is not saying. I really want to get it for her, may have to see if dh wants to donate towards it, however I think he may be as broke as me this week
Is it just me that is short of cash at the moment, as everyone I know seems to have lots to spend on nights out and clothes, which seems unusual for this time of year.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
We're strapped for cash at the mo too, not just you don't worry1

We are strapped too. Got a night out tomorrow as DH bought me tickets to Strictly Come Dancing for christmas, and we may eat out as i have some Bella Italia vouchers that need using by the end of Feb, otherwise we can't really afford it. I have £23.10 in my purse and -0.41p in the bank. Mad times. Luckily plenty of food in, and we don't have to pay my sister to babysit, just leave some food in for her to feed herself, my nephew and my two.0

I hope you have a great time tomorrow night michelle, we definatly need treats from time to time. have you been to strictly before?
I need to arrange a night out with DH, I go out with friends more i think as its easier sometimes with babysitting, and they go out quite often compared to me , I always end up feeling a right stick in the mud if I don't go sometimes.
But its so expensive, one of the girls going out this friday asked how much she should take out for a meal for one and drinks for the evening, and another friend said she was taking at least £70. In my clubbing days that was nothing but now with a mortgage and 3 kids its :eek:MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
