Today was a nsd, luckily we have milk and due to the yellow sticker tescos bread I have a spare loaf in the freezer so hopefully I can keep us going a bit longer. I've batch cooked a big pot of veggie chilli and put some extra veg in that was getting a bit elderly! tomorrow we have the local paper coming to the factory to interview and take pictures of dh after his award win.
oh paragraphs are working!
last night I opened 3x Halifax isa for the kids (the 6% ones) so they now have £1000 each from the money dh was given, due to our lifetime of debt and terrible spending habits - pre mse , they have never had more than a few hundred savings each.
Dd has already said she wants to save at least half of whatever she earns helping out at the factory through the summer, she clearly has lots more sense than her parents ever had.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

6% ISAs from H@lifax are great, my little brother opened one just about the moment his firstborn came along. To be honest, if it is a guaranteed 6% vs. investing, I'd bite your hand off for that deal0

I did think about putting the cash in a S&S junior isa , but it doesn't seem worth the effort if you can get 6%, plus my eldest is nearly 17 so its probably a bit late for the long term growth.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0

ohhhh thanks for the tip -must check out the Halifax ISA's for the boys....0

Hmmm - I checked out the Halifax website and can only find the junior ISA which is 4% and excludes children who received the CTF, which mine did.... or there is a Regular Saver @ 6%?
Which one did you open?0 -

Hi ,
this may explain it

Ahhh, makes sense, sadly we couldn't have had it anyway as our boys received the Child Trust Fund and all these daft rules mean that CTF children can't have the Junior Isa, Grrrr..... Thanks for posting the link!!
And, well done to Newgirly for getting in there before the generous folks at halifax pulled it!!0 -
Oh what a shame
I suppose 4% is still quite good though.
Some good news today is after sulkily chucking the broken iPad in the car and leaving it there in the heat all day ready to take to the apple shop, ds2 got in the back and switched it on and it works again. It probably won't last as it came on previously but I'm making the most of it now
Still not spent all of the tiny budget this week, I've not done a proper food shop just a couple of mini top ups at mr t on the way home from work and got lots of yellow stickered rolls/bread etc. which has helped a lot. It's strange I go in about 5pm and I'm the only one ever having a rummage through the reduced stuff.
It's dds birthday Friday and we are busy all weekend, Friday I'm taking her to the cinema and lunch, Saturday We are all going to the film and comic con at earls court if we can get in as pre booked tickets are sold out so we have to queue, Sat night is teenage girls round for drinks , pizza and a movie in the hot tub, Sunday is a big family BBQ at my mums. Phew , so tomorrow's get everything done list is:
Change beds
Do all ironing
Clean whole house
Buy birthday card, paper and a frozen balloon for dd
Find and wrap presents
Visit best friend and her poorly son and take some DVDs
Re read meters and enter online
Check accounts
Do a smallish food shop
