  • Hi NewGirly, I never knew what to ask for until I told the kids I'd really appreciate some good hand cream and now I know that for at least one gift I'll have something which I can use every day. They see me using it and know I appreciate it. Other than that, I'm useless.

GGs the one for gifts, she always has ideas about what she would like.

If you're losing weight, could you ask for vouchers for your favourite shop? Then you could have a splurge later?

My sister who has sadly passed away, once bought me a coat she liked, for my birthday. I was about 1' taller than her, totally different dress style and she would always ask me if I'd worn it. Sadly I had to tell her a white lie and I'd say it was lovely. :o:o

    Best wishes Tilly

Hee hee, I'm not the only one clearly :D what I really would love is weekend away (anywhere, in any hotel) my parents to have the kids and have a bit of time to spend with dh , a nice curry and plenty of wine. A bit extravagant I suppose, but I really don't lust after much material stuff, but chance to go places is much more fun.

It's also my mil's birthday the day after mine , so am going to put my thinking cap on as she is difficult to buy for too.

Tilly I could ask for vouchers, but if I don't lose weight I won't be able to spend them , they may have to be valid for a long time :rotfl:

Lulabelle, one Xmas my mum bought me a large can of the posh gold hairspray that old ladies use which I love, usually I get tesc* value, she thought it was odd, but who wants to spend £6.50 on hairspray, I Definatly get you on the makeup although I asked for some for Xmas a couple of years ago and dh let dd choose it, so instead of mascara etc. I got lots of expensive nail art stiff that dd likes

Hdk, a tea towel is a step too far for a birthday present surely:rotfl:

Your post really made me think about my comments earlier Tilly.... I shall smile and be grateful for whatever I get as its nice that she cares and is still around for me. It's good to be reminded of the important things every now and then :)

:rotfl:One Xmas I bought both my mum & MIL tea towels as part of their presents. My mum loved hers, MIL did not 'get it' even though she got a new kitchen installed a few weeks later and I wanted her to have something useful and pretty.

I would ask for bits for your new extension. Maybe some paintings you like, bedlinen, a cushion or two, tie backs, throw, towel rail, loo roll holder etc. Essentially all the little pretty or low cost things that finish a room.

Alternatively, ask them to take you out for lunch and they get a kick out of knowing you want to spend time with them. Or, a trip to the garden centre to buy a plant or seeds.

I was bad at thinking what presents I wanted. That's why I started a present list (not because I'm greedy). I currently have on there 4 different rattan baskets for the kitchen (I need to choose the one I like), mirrors for the new downstairs W.C., bird bath for the garden, clothes (I'm also waiting until I lose weight), serving dishes including a cake stand, lip stick, headphones (cheap ones), magazine subscription, pyjamas and Christmas lights. Most of them will stay on the list until someone buys them for me.
    Pots: House £6966/£7100, Rainy day Complete, [STRIKE]Sunny day £0/£700[/STRIKE], IVF £2523/£2523, Car up-keep £135/£135, New car £5000/£5000, Holiday £1000/£1000, MFW #16 £2077/£3120

:doh:Why do I make lists of ideas for other people and not myself . Off to do one (albeit with nothing on it at present :wall:)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

That's not a bad idea Peonie, not sure what style I like though yet, anyone would think I was redecorating Buckingham palace the thought that's going into it :rotfl:

Dh has lent the work van out , so probably loft clearing is off for this weekend, I did mention maybe going to the local antiques centre today to see if there is anything there for my birthday that's weird and wonderful. The only other idea I have is a handmade patchwork quilt or an Xmas quilt ,but they are serious money.

Any way last nights dinner was a success for a change, aubergine lasagne, layered with courgette, aubergine and pasta sheets with red onion and sauce in between with a cheesy topping, not low fat but very tasty and the best part is half is leftovers for to tonight.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend:D
