Been on the mortgage calculator again and have worked out that I need to op by £640 to knock 1 month off, so its possibe that every 2 or 3 months I might be able to knock another month off if I am very good :D

The paperwork to change the mortgage over is signed and will be posted today, its a bit scary going to repayment again but a relief to not be falling further behind with making payments we can't really manage.

    Aims for today:

    • Hoover the whole filthy house
    • clean bathroom
    • do ALL washing up to date, and stick on airers not dryer
    • write a plan for the week so I get organised instead of just talking about being organised ;)

I think if I have a higher budget to live off maybe I will have more leftovers to op and can try and pay off something every couple of days even if its just pennies.:D

I have found I have more money to OP since having a higher budget which seems more realistic.

    • spend survey voucher for mr s on present for little brother
    • batch cook spag bol before mince in fridge goes grey
    • check accts

Hi Newgirly, sounds like you have made a sensible decision re: the mortgage. Now that you are on repayment you might feel a bit more comfortable financially knowing that the mortgage WILL be paid off. How about doing account 'tidy ups' like Tilly does, you may not notice the pennies but they do add up.

Your centre parcs break sounds fab, am sure it will help you all to get into the Christmas spirit whilst making some happy family memories.

Hi cath, I think I will do what tilly does and op almost daily pennies at least, plus I enjoy checking my accts - you never know one day there might suddenly be lots of unexpected money in there, if you don't check you won't know :rotfl:

Yesterday I bought a new xbox for ds2 for xmas, his has broken which is a major catastrophy for 12 year old boy :D I got a good deal as there is 20% off in mr s at the moment and I won't have to pay for nearly all of it as lots of the family are putting towards it, I did say he could have it before xmas (completely out of character for me!) to save 5 weeks of bickering as his twins one works still, but he has declined and said he will wait until xmas, we will see how it goes.

A small bit of moneysaving I did yesterday was , cutting my own hair  First I coloured it like usual, then with my hairdressing scissors I bought for £3 from ebay I tied it up in a pony and chopped about 3" off :eek:, I saw it on you tube being demonstrated by a celeb hairdresser who said it was easy, then I cut my fringe.

It looks fine thank goodness, I would'nt do it all the time as I have long layered hair, but for a quick tidy up its good.

  • Hi NewGirly - Long time Lurker here!
Its nice to hear that you are feeling brighter, and I think you have got the balance just right now, like others have said, you can relax a little knowing that the mortgage is taken care of and if you find a little to overpay then even better. You obviously enjoy spending money on your family and I think you would be miserable if you had to cut all that out completely, and anyway, life is just too short!

I did the pony tail hair cut a few weeks ago, cutting about 6 inches off  I looked like I had a mullet when I first saw it as it gave me really short layers :rotfl: but when it dried it didn't look too bad ~ I won't be doing it again though :o
