We try & have a family meal out every school holiday, so every 6/7 weeks or so, that's our 'treat' & I really appreciate it, plus it's the only time I get to have 'proper' chips!! :D

newgirly, please can you tell me more about the dehumidifiers you got for your DD's bedroom?? It might sound a bit random, but would they work in a car?! :o

Hi Pink poppy, they were from b*q, £4.98 each - its a plastic trough full of white powder that gradually fills with water as its used. So not as efective as a plug in one I suppose but easier to leave in a car.

I laughed when reading about the christmas present wrapping.... I too had the romantic idea of wrapping mine up whilst listening to Christmas music and drinking Baileys..... The reality was several hours spent yesterday frantically trying to get it all done and stashed back in the loft before the children came home.

Oh well, it's always nice to have the romantic ideas even if they never actually materialise!

Congrats on getting it all done!

Thanks, I'll have a look for them, hopefully they will work ~ £4.98 is a lot cheaper than a new car would cost!! :D

Oh no - this is where a spreadsheet would come in handy but best not to get me on my spreadsheet obsession again!!
  • I took out a mortgage on my present house in 1983, paid it off 1994 just before I was 40 (that was always my goal, to pay the mortgage off before I was 40) then instead of spending more of my income, saved the equivalent of my mortgage payments in the building society. Two years ago I gave up working and switched to living off those savings. I'm now having fun! Spending lots of time on my allotment and sawing logs in my wood. I live a pretty simple sort of life, no car, no TV, no fogeign holidays, but enjoying it thoroughly.

    Hi

sorry to but in the conversation but we buy the plastic dehumidifiers in a twin pack from poundland and leave them in the caravan all through the winter months.
It's amazing how much they collect.

but most of all I find there are lots of things we can do on a low budget like cheap hotel rooms for days out
You go to a hotel room for a day out? Wow :smileyhea.

Handily I found a few lists on paper scraps and on my notepad in my phone... I've managed to remember what I bought from looking at those. Thank goodnesss - saved from another spreadsheet, I have a hard enough time keeping the ones I do have up to date!
