I won't lie, it is uncomfortable the first couple of times, but you get used to it, and the convenience of not shaving (and having itchy shaving rash in 'those' areas:eek:) outweighs the pain I think. But it's down to personal preference (and pain threshold!!)

I like the idea of ten mins of pain or whatever for no shaving rash!

You could try one of the kits with the tub you microwave, think nair do one? The initial couple of strips will be much like the hot wax machine, but as the wax cools it will get more difficult and a little bit more painful, thats the beauty of the machine, the wax is at a constant temperature.

Ooh, and don't use the nair pot that you don't use strips with - its a spread on and actually peel the wax back off, no good whatsoever!

Why don't you just go for a bog standard bikini wax first where you leave your knickers on and try before you buy...get a feel for the salon, the waxing and how embarrassed you actually feel.

Then you know whether you can go the whole hog in salon or not...personally i could not eplilate my nethers, i do my bikini line and it does pinch but its worth it...i have been waxed loads of times and i find waxing more painful everywhere than epilating..

But i always chicken when i home wax and end up with strip stuck to my skin as i've waited too long to pull it off :)

Theres also sugaring too which a lot prefer to wax more natural ingredients ;)

If the hair is long it hurts more. As for bikini line - I had this waxed once and bruised which looked far worse than a few stray hairs so have never done anything since!

Been looking at this one, does anyone know how it compare to the Sallys one?

    I would 100% recommend this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Braun-Silk-!pil-Xpressive-Rechargeable-Epilator/dp/B001NXCMZE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I've waxed for 10 years and I am bored of having 'in between' days now. I just used it to epilate both arms and legs in the bath this evening and wow!! It was so easy and the massage head basically eliminates the pain, it's just like a strong tickling sensation.

I think the amazon reviews say it all.

I'm still going to wax my underarms (professionally) but I'm hoping to start using the epilator on facial hair soon too.. but having to pluck up the courage and find a weekend I can do it where I can stay at home if it all goes horribly wrong!!

Also on moneysaving: It costs me £60 to buy this and it will do the job for years. Fantastic!!

I see now the thread has moved on to waxing!

But incase anyone wants to know...I have the Braun Silk Epil. and have had it for about 2 years now.

It works well but does hurt. I seem to be fine after a few weeks, then stop for the winter, come back the next year and it hurts all over again!
I have yet to be able to do my under arms without drawing blood. I get my hairs out (well some of them) but little dots of blood which then end up bleeding onto clothes. Its not the epilator cutting my skin, its the hairs being yanked out!
Don't even mention the bikini line, some things don't bare thinking about!

I now use the creams on my bikini line and am happy enough with that, I am too much of a scaredy cat to use wax or get a wax done.

I have tried many different brands of hair removal cream on my under arms but none get all the hairs and most burn my skin. I tried waxing the area once but no hair came up, it was so frustrating I tried over and over again and ended up with very red raw skin. I am stuck with shaving :(.

With legs, I'd say go with waxing- I do use the eplil. some times but it does tend to give me more in growing hairs. I prefer a salon wax as all the waxes I have tried never seem to get as smooth a finish. I have tried sugaring but found it very messy and very sticky, it was much harder to keep neat whilst applying, but some people swear by it (probably the coordinated ones!)

OMG i can't believe you tried sugaring yourself  :D I wouldn't know where to start your very brave, i bet it gets everywhere....i had it done once but by a pro and it was effective but i found my legs hurt more, but i think its because of the constant flicking action whereas with waxing its one swipe of pain. It just depends on your pain threshold i suppose.

the body shop. hurt more then waxing (slightly) but it was the mess that really got to me!-and the fear of ants finding any sugary bits I had missed when cleaning up.
