Bear in mind that with so many devices connected to the router at the same time, your speeds will drop when each is switched on, they won't necessarily divide equally either, so if your downstream speed is say, 5mbps and you have a pc on, that will get the full speed, if you then switch on and connect the ps3 then the router might divide the speed 4mbps to the pc and 1mbps to the router.
Also consider the environment your router sits in. Wireless is affected by lots and lots of things including metal, water, central heating and alarm sensors and mirrors. So if you're not getting a good wireless connection in a specific part of the house, consider what the signal needs to get through to get there, for example; is there a mirror on the wall? Does the central heating boiler sit between the router and the place the signal is getting to? Are there radiators between the two? Do you have a fish tank close by? All of these will "dilute" the signal to some extent and can reduce it to zilch in some cases. Even shifting the router to another part of the same room to try avoid something like this can make a dramatic difference0 -
Thanks, it does make sense a bit to me now. We have constantly PC and laptop on, then kids go to the bedroom and one turns the PS3 on and the other one turns the PC with World of Warcraft on so all 4 devices are connected to the router and the Internet at the same time. There is no boiler, mirrors or central heating between the 2 rooms, only few walls and 2 cupboards. Thanks a lot.2014 - Lisbon - February

, If you can screen shot the graph and post it via somewhere like photobucket that would help, if not sure then tell us which channel you are on, and which channels are being picked up, 12/13 are most likely favourites to use but some kit does not expand as far as that, nor do some routers.
Just post your channel and then each of the others in the order of strength in the games room. I know it means pen/paper then typing in but if you don't know how to use screen shot and photobucket / other picture web sites thats your best bit. Then we can work out which channel to use for best effect.
Hi, finally worked it out how to put the link here, I made a printscreen of the routers. can you suggest how to change the router channel to strenthgen my connection? Thanks. My channel is 1; it seems to be quite busy with 6 and 11.

I am not able to have a cable from router to PS3 as the router is connected to the main PC in sitting room and the kids bedroom is at the end of L-shaped flat; we have laminate flooring and cant see how the cable would go around the whole flat

]Homeplug or equivalent[/QUOTE]
I never heard of Homeplug, just googled it and found some on Amazon... So do I just plug it into the socket or how that works? And according what do I choose as it seems that there are many to choose from...
Information, including videos, about Home Plugs (85 mbps, nominal) and Powerline Adaptors (200 mbps, nominal) is available here and here.
Basically, they create a network within your premises by making clever use of the electrical wiring, instead.
They work well, provided (for reasons of security) that your domestic electrical circuit is not shared by others.
(They also enable you to control the hours at which access to the Internet is made available to your children!).
It's a good solution if the wireless band where you live is being swamped by people living nearby.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

I am assuming that the graph is from the lappy when it is in the kid's room, and if so the relative strength is not brilliant compared to the competition in the same location. In my house my router shows at RSSI -50 and my neighbour has -86 on the same channel as me (they have changed to my channel in the last week but does not seem to interfere).
Change the channel to 4 and see how it goes, but seeing the graph it may be a powerline (Homeplug or whatever ) may be the best option.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . There are lots of routers near to you , the BTopenzone/BTFon ones are just BT users with BT Hotspots hanging off of their Home Hubs( they will have similar MAC addresses and blank vendors), I also noticed that you are using WEP (assuming you are the Thomson at the top of the graph) which you ought to change for WPA/WPA2 but that is a nice thing to sort out next for security.

Hi again, I don't know about your router, a Thomson I believe, so I will have to look it up on the net, however 1st of all we will need to find out what the IP address of the router is, so go to start and type cmd and press enter. Then in the little command prompt window type ipconfig and press enter
Look for the default gateway line it will normally be 192.168.x.y we(ie you) will need to then connect using IE/Firefox by typing http://192.168.x.y and it then should ask you for a username and password. I am guessing now that it probably admin and admin but will look for a manual for the router on the net, (if you have one it may be quicker to find yours if you are organised type or if like me I would look on the net)
If you can post back the model number of the router it may be easier too to find the right one.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
