Hi All
bit desperate here....my V reg ASTRA key has snapped in half , i have both parts.....the fob is simply for the remote locking , hasnt worked for months anyway so have been opening the door manually , can my locak key cutter just cut my key using the cast of the two parts put together ?
Any advise welcome !!!

I dont think so, last time i hada key cut via timpsons the man put my key on a machine and a blank above it the machine they followed the contours of my key to cut the new one. I think you may have to go via dealership who will be able to do it via regastration (had to do that when I lost keys!)0

Yes have them cut a new blade or just a standard key then change the chip out of your old key.0

cheers mate , how will they cut my key if its in two halves ? (sorry to sound thick)0

As long as the two half's match up they should be ok to cut it ok. but most will not offer a guarantee when cutting of a broken key.0

Hi again !
My other half is at the locksmiths now , they are saying they can copy the key , as a key , not a car key , son taht at the least i will be able to get into the car, which is a start
Is there anyway i can marry up the fob thats attached to the broken key with the new key , to get the car going ?

So if i keep the fob with the new key it may still work ?0 -
Just keep the fob on the same keyring as the other key and you'll be fine. A lot of people tape them to the ECU when they have to replace keys but I wouldn't recommend that for obvious reasons!
I got a new key made from a broken key I had. Worked perfectly but you could remove the key from the ignition with the engine still running!0
