Probably user error - you're using it on a desk without a cooling pad causing it to overheat.
    Buy a cooling pad.

    That's pants...
Using it on a duvet = stupid
Using it on a desk = perfectly normal

I know this is a bit OT, but I've never understood why people are suddenly unable to study without a computer...

When I was at school (I only left 9 years ago...) I used books, internet at the library, school computers after school if needed, and wrote everything by hand.

In college, studying a ICT, I still typed up most of my work at college if needed. Surely 2 weeks without a laptop won't destroy her life, because there's enough resources around to ensure she can still do work without a laptop.

Some schools (a lot) do online submissions, online information and all that from their own systems. Specially for uni students etc, I get so many of them coming crying about not being able to do their work etc (and the worry of losing stuff).

Phew you were lucky, chalk and a slate were all that was available in my day...

    Internet ha :)

Chalk and slate? My mum just pointed out that you were SPOILT!

She was lucky if she saw even a hint of papyrus. She used to dab the blood of a wooly mammoth onto cave walls and hope the teacher was literate enough to give her a nod of approval or a vicious beating.

You know what a mum is? I had a stork.
  • Tis would be better on the Thechie Stuff thread.

Laptops, if actually used on the lap, or sofa or carpet do tend to gather a lot of 'dust' that clog up the air vents, wne dence they get a lttle warm.

Best slution is to get the vacuum cleaner out, with the dusting head on, wan whip it round the air vents, they are normally underneath. Solution is cheap and bnorammly permenant!
  • The Toshiba Satelites vent a lot from the underside of the laptop, so overheat far more quickly than a MacBook, which vents at the back.

Kids can insist they are doing things the way they are supposed to, but in reality are doing things completely different (like using laptops with vents totally block by duvets, etc).

It's getting that computers are compulsory for kids in school - I've already seen homework which is specifically 'go on x website' or 'find out online'. OK, sometimes a trip to the library can be managed, but certainly not if the homework is due in the next day and the library has a half day closing on Wednesday - the day the assignment has been issued.

It's completely essential once you get to post 16 - you will fail courses if you can't submit work electronically and work is only issued online rather than by post.

If this is unsuccessful in getting it fixed, I would suggest taking the matter up with Head Office, explaining that it has been faulty from the off and you want a refund.

BTW, Acer aren't particularly well made - failure is quite common with them, so they won't be able to tell you that you are the only person who has trouble with them.

Wow :|. I'm starting teacher training in september and I had no clue it was going that way. That's !!!!!!!!.

On topic, yes, Acer are relatively low in their build quality. It would be worth making note of the error, as it could be software that's the problem, or overheating. If you're confident enough to go into the BIOS, you should be able to find the temperature of the computer to see how hot it's getting.

I'm not surprised Acer couldn't find a fault, though tbh. Whenever I send computers back to them, I write out what the faults are, how to demonstrate the fault, I confirm I have seen the fault myself while with the customer, but still they send some things back with "DERP! Me no see faulty. Power button worked DERP!!"

It is not the issue about studying that,s the problem thankyou anyway a lot of work has been stored on there and things have changed a lot since your days believe me!! I only wanted advice on my rights as a customer not a hovis sob story!!!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Must admit, when we went to GCSE meeting, the head teach informed all parents the single most beneficial thing they could do to help their children was to get them a computer, or arrange the regular use of one, as there are so many sites schools use for revision, and they do their homework online, even at yr 7.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • As ba mature Student on my degree course I was asked how did you present your reports before computers were around.

I said we wrote them, on two sides of A4 paper! You could see the reaction of the others youngster gathered around!

My project was concluded in about 50 pages and got a distinction, you should have seen the piles of unadulterated carp the otehrs bought in!
