Thanks relic. Have you done the ACCA? Is there a work experience element to this ? I mean I've got loads of accounts office experience but not Accountants office experience - if you know what I mean :o

What industry are you working in?

To be honest I wouldn't even call it an industry. I work for a small business (motor factors) doing bog standard accounts, admin etc.

As long as a qualified accountant oversees your work (not sure if it has to be an ACCA member or can be a member of another accountancy body - check with ACCA what they need exactly) - then they can sign off your 'practical experience requirement (work experience' - you need to have 3 years of work experience signed off plus passing the exams to become an ACCA member

    Hi Folks

I am on the intermediate level of my AAT and have got an interview with an accountants practice next week. The lady at the practice who arranged the interview was very vague - she said they are recruiting for various positions.

If this is the case and I am successful at the interview, what type of position should I be aiming for? Or, shall I just settle for what they offer me, and then work myself up to become assistant accountant etc? What about salary expectations? They are based on the West Midlands.

Thanks in advance for your response.

For accountants practice, maybe just preparing the accounts for smaller companies/clients and helping the more senior accountants with the bigger companies/clients. I would say this is as classed as accounts assistant. I'd also be careful of not being asked to do office work like admin and try and get more involved in helping with the accounts because this is more challenging, interesting and bigger salary.

    Hi Folks

Just to let you know, the interview seemed to go well, because they have called me back for a second interview.

In that interview, there will be a second partner who will also be interviewing me. Can someone please give me an indication of what things I could be asked / or what else could be discussed in the interview? Do you think it would be a more indepth interview than this first one, or do you think it will be more of a formailty i.e. just putting a face to a name.

Finally, they want to test my Excel skills at this second interview. I am ok at Excel, but is anyone aware of any good websites which I can look at in order to improve my skills?

Thanks in advance for your response.

There's an Excel Manual called "Excel Step By Step" that I found online - try googling for it. It's great and tells you everything from the basics to really complicated stuff. Good luck with your interview.

    Hi PepPop

    Thanks for your reply.

I tried googling but could not find the manual which you are referring to.

You don't remember the website address by any chance?

    Thanks in advance.
