In my (limited and not very successful) experience, it's a really good way of seeing if their real life personality is as appealing as their online persona, and if they are weird, you can just hang up.

If you are thinking you don't like them though, delete the number and forget them.

Don't be freaked out. This is a good thing. It's just unfamiliar and a little bit scary. But it gets easier to chat to people you don't know the more you do it.

I'm on OkCupid and POF if you want me to have a look at their profile and give you an honest opinion?

One guy completely not my type but I quite like him any way? He is not being freaky, other guy on MSN, nice VERY near and keen. one other guy miles away again nice sent number, fourth guy had a good chat with him the other night and he sent his phone number too.

and the new one this afternoon rude but funny.

I am getting so confused. its fun whilst I am chatting and then I stop and think crap.

but I guess it will get easier. and I have laughed lots.

One of my closest friends is a date that wasn't really my type but I liked him lots. In fact I have two good friends I met that way.

Rude but funny is fine, if it's not so rude it makes you uncomfortable. Test the water a bit with a non-rude chat and make sure he is capable of conversing about other topics. One of the aforementioned good friends was very rude online but utterly charming and gentlemanly in person.

You don't have to decide which one is right for you straight away. Keep chatting to them all, and it will soon become clear which of them you have the most connection with. There will eventually be one that you get excited about hearing from more than the others, and that's a good place to start, but don't burn your bridges with the others unless they do or say something that makes you think 'Ewww, no!'.

Voldemort turned out to be an arris but we had some lovely, fun dates at first, and I would never have guessed we would from his rather dull, staid messages. So you can never really tell until you chat in person.

I'm proud of you for giving it a try.

What's the worst that can happen? You meet someone you really like, it ends badly and your heart gets broken. Okay, that's pretty bad, but that's the worst case scenario. And if that happens, you will recover. Trust me, I KNOW!

Or you might just meet someone and it works.... :T

By the way, did you see my reply to you on FB about 'blindfold man'? Just wondered if you are aware of this man, as he frequents a site you have mentioned in the past. He is a bit droolsome. Not single/not looking, sadly. But still, I can have a crush!
