lol, is it a 'man thing'? My 3 year old will pull his trousers down and wee in the garden, honest to God he's never been shown this he just does it!!

Trouble is l'm very fastidious about cleanliness and have to chase him round the garden wet wipe in hand to get him to wash his hands

But his urine will be sterile and you may be doing more harm than good with your wet wipes.

"Remember a major component of urine is urea. Urea is commonly recognized as an effective antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral agent. Its mechanism is simple. The presence of urea in the urine is the result of the body's chemical balancing of sodium chloride and water ratio. When used on a wound, urea causes an osmotic imbalance that kills bacteria and fungus. It is so effective it is used in many topical ointments and creams sold pharmaceutically, both prescription and over-the-counter. Urea is found in a broad range of medicines used to treat inflammation. It is a main ingredient in the medicine Herpigon, used to treat herpes infections."

I don't have a garden shed but do have a compost bin that could do with additional nutrients. To be sure of not being seen I'd need to launch a 12 foot jetstream but all of it wouldn't be in the compost. Hmmm. Must keep a non clear plastic bottle for this.

How much can the compost bin take of the stuff anyway?

I think Kaya was trying to say that it doesn't take long to take off your wellies and go indoors to use the toilet instead.
    No sh*t sherlock :D
the OP said it was for convenience
not for the good of the compost heap

    either way, i'm with Kaya
we have evolved a long way, seems not as far as i would have hoped
We've evolved so far, that we think the basic stuff that is natural is "wrong", not to mention bad for us.

On another tack, using a container in the shed, or peeing straight onto the compost heap may shows an environmental desire to reduce the amount of drinking water wasted flushing the loo.

Not sure that completing a nutrient cycle within your garden and saving on water use is an evolutionary step backwards. Maybe oneday we'll all come out of the closet! :)
Ahh, an evolutionary step backwards, see, here's someone that understands an open and a closed loop. Not to mention water usage.
And they understand that urine is sterile.

Use a watering can, that's what I do.

You generally use it as a starter for the heap, but if it's dry, anytime really, if you have a very woody, or straw compost pile, like I do, then you can pour it on till you are dry.
You also can use it as a direct fertiliser, dilute half with water, it's chocka with nitrogen, so only good for some things. Or I combine it with comfrey and nettle brew to make a diverse indeed fertiliser.

I'm female and I pee in the shed when I'm at the allotment. The nearest loo is a ten minute walk away so really, it's much easier to use a convenient container and then empty it onto the compost heap. It's a great activator for the compost.

As to whether I'd use the garden shed? Probably not. But my sons always took great delight in peeing in the garden compost bins rather than come inside.
    Val.
  • me too. Its too much bother to drive home to do this so I just use an old bucket. I keep a bottle of anti-bacterial lotion in the shed just for this. it there's nobody about OH just pees into the composter. Im sure most of the ladies on our allotment do this. I woulden't dream of doing it at home though.:D
