GM CRD Injector Puller

I'm needing to get an injector puller for our 2.5 diesel VM engined Chrysler.
The injectors have been saturated in release fluid, I've tried a slide hammer and through various forums, I've read that theres no way to get them out without the correct tool. (apparently steel in aluminium eventually welds itself in).
Has anyone any ideas where I could get one in the UK? Or a tool hire place that deals with obscure car specific tools (business idea there perhaps????).
I've posted on a chrysler forum but thought I'd give in here a bash too. Looks like it'll be a £300 job from the US (the right tool is Miller Tools VM9075A).

Get the engine hot and then try.0

Timing belts gone. The injectors have 3 inches inside that needs to come up.
Access is very limited even although theres loads removed, if i'd even been able to get any movement, i'd have kept at it.0 -
i was under the impression (not sure why) that the crd engine was a rebadged mercedes cdi unit. am i wrong?
even if i am wrong would the mercedes cdi injector pullers not help you? even if you had to modify the puller to suit your needs it would be a lot cheaper than £300. there seems to be plenty of these on ebay....work permit granted!0 -
The only thing thats throwing me with that one is the part about doing the chrysler 2.7 diesel and it can remove the inner part of the injector. I dont want to split the injector at all.
It also says you can take them out without removing the cam cover. I need them out so that I CAN remove it.0 -
Not sure, but from the picture isn't that just a specially shaped puller? Looks like you could create something to do the same job in a few hours in the shed? Or modify a small bearing puller?

Started a parts list to build one, got pictures from a forum and read the guys post. He said if he could do it all again, he'd just pay the money for the tool. So thats what i've done.
I'd hate to spend a couple of days making arrangements to get something knocked up just for it to break or even damage something.
It should do a lot of chrysler/dodge/jeep stuff, perhaps even disco/rangerover or merc stuff so I may be able to sell it on again.0 -

The older ones were VM engines someone told me. I've since found out they were used in boats as well and they dont get a very good write up.
I dont think the 2.7 one will fit as it mentions you dont need to take the cam cover off to use it. I need the cam cover off, the injectors stop this. It may do it, but that would me down another £70 to find out for sure. The injectors are different as well although to get round that it would probably be a case of turning the tool through 180 degrees if thats all it was.
Access is very limited
The place you got the dimensions from is the same thread as the guy who says he would just buy the tool if he had to do it all again.
edit: - Looking at that one for the 2.7 again, it wouldnt do as there would be no room to get in from the side it needs to come in from. The injectors for the 2.5 and the 2.7 look the same but a mirror image (fuel attaches from right on the 2.5 but the left on the 2.7) plus the bolt I need out to get the cover off would foul the puller coming in from that end as well.0 -
The older VM diesel (e.g. the Range Rover one you mentioned earlier) certainly started life as a boat engine, and many ended as a boat anchor instead. They didn't have a good reputation, for performance or for reliability. Most reliability issues were due to unsympathetic servicing I'm told, though the performance certainly was a bit lacking.
The VM 2.4 in the Ford Scorpio is of the same family as well IIRC, but I dont know how much they have in common with the Common Rail engine, probably not much, and certainly diferent injector designs.
Good luck with it!0 -
Got the tool yesterday, 30 mins and all the injectors out. Nothing else would have done I dont think.0
