engine size and travel distance

AVIS have been giving out Nissan Note's as Group C cars for a while now.
Group C used to be Focus/Mondeo/Vectra sized cars and were fine for the 500 mile round trip motorway stomp to attend a meeting.
These Note's are shocking, ecomnomy is attrocious in the little engine, those 500 miles will include 2 full top ups, possibly another one before handing it back.
They are noisy, uncomfortable buckets, not suited at all for motorways, you get out feeling like you have been two rounds with Mike Tyson.
We've had dozens of them now, with the same reports from all those unfortunate enough to recive one. It has got to the point where people are leaving it at home and taking their own cars.
Nissan may have shifted a lot of cars to AVIS, but the reputation of the Note cannot have been helped. It is a City car, and a fairly decent one for pottering around town, but it is awful on motorways
For high miles, get a 1.8 or more decent size 4 dr saloon/5 dr hatch.0 -
basically asking is that can 1.0 to 1.4 engines do long distance journeys
Even a 1.0 L engine can do VERY long distance journey without drama.
Often the driver will collapse before the car gives any trouble on a long journeyHappiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
Its generally down to the car size, not engine size. Volkswagens passat 'economy' variants come with a 1.4 petrol engine or a 1.6 diesel.0

There is only one real rule when it comes down how well a small/large car performs. It's power to weight ratio.
It doesn't cover how fast a car will travel, but does govern how fast it accelerates.
You can have a hot hatch that will out perform a good sports car, or a luxury saloon that glides over the road, the trick is getting the performance criteria right for you.
They are all trade offs but you can often get a good compromise between comfort, economy, safety, and longevity, not to mention reliability,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Try a 1.25 Zetec Fiesta and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the speed, economy and overall comfort.0

Both are (at least) turbo charged. I dont think they'd leave tyre marks up the road from a standing start, but long range cruising is their thing. The 105BHP 1.6 diesel has a combined figure of significantly over 60mpg.0 -
I bought a brand new one in 2007. It averaged 28mpg and had fairly dire power.
Yeah, but you bought a Ford,.

The trouble is with a big car you can fit in a lot of stuff so with a fully loaded car the size of a passat 105 BHP is going to be inadiquate - especially if trying to go up hill at high speed on the motorway.0
