just a sticky - ryanair only - thread, a bit like to NYC, Las Vegas ones etc etc, will stop clogging the board up..

i've never flown them, mainly on the basis of they don't do TATL flights (yet..!) , so really can't comment, but i am getting sick and tired of the whole - ryanair are crap because i don't read things - posts that always creep up week after week..

In this country we have the great habit of knocking and moaning about everything that is successful such as Ryanair.
Whereas the yanks recognise and applaud successful people.
O`Leary would have got a medal over there by now.
  • If there is one thing I am sure about, it's that I would advise but No one to take the Ryanair Policy !
I was stolen an MP3 during a trip over the christmas period and contacted immediately the local police, obtained a claim report number from them as well as contacted the insurer "TPS" by phone to let them now about what happened.

The rule TPS put is that all documentation has to sent to them within 31 days, though... without reminding you which ones. One week later I received a form by post for me to fill and give further information.

The form does not mention this but I later realised that the ENTIRE form has to be filled, whether the question in it relates to your situation or not at all. As an example, you are asked about the date the insurance was taken, but does this mean the date you booked it...or the date you flied? Or the duration of the insurance cover, which isn't even in the small print for you to search afterwards.

I sent the form immediately... and waited: 3 WEEKS. Now the 31 days limit was being reached so I called them to get a reply and they where not able to give me one as pretendedly their telephone operators were "in a meeting!!!". Two days later someone left me a message on my phone saying I had to call them to obtain an update on the situation. I did, and queued on the phone for 10 minutes. Eventually the answer was negative: no refund at all and that was it.

On my wondering Why.. they assured I had not contacted the Airline company (Ryanair) which I should have done on top of the Local Police (in my memory the policy required was either one or the other).
I offered to do it. But they rejected the offer: the "reasonable time" for contacting the airline company had gone.

CONCLUSION: it is really easy for TPS to bypass it's duty and that is why they don't proceed with your claim efficiently. I strongly suspect them of lying, as having been a telephone operator in the past for other companies, I know we NEVER had meetings.

ALL you do by taking an Airline Insurance with Ryanair is wasting money, including stamps, long phone queuing, ... and eventually your time and patience.

You can be more clever than me!
Instead of taking your revenge on the web, just don't give them your money and buy yourself a hot drink.

Many many many sites have this sort of problem. They have 'default' values for fields each time you come onto a screen. You have to accept it was your mistake, not Ryan Airs (not that I have any fondness for Ryan Air).

    Ivan

Agreed: a serious problem. Be thankful that it was only insurance, and a relatively small amount of money.

I once bought a flight to China from LastMinute.com. I chose the date and fare carefully and got to the final payment page, and checked everything. I then needed to clarify the charge for the card I was using, returned to the final page (which I had already checked in detail) and was all set to press the buy button. I then noticed that the date of travel had returned to its default date: the day on which I was making the booking!

I suggest you post about this experience on the Insurance branch.

You are right: a police report should be enough, although if you forgot something on the 'plane the insurer could reasonably expect you to notify the airline.

Anyway, you should appeal and if necessary make a complaint to the ombudsman.

And your problem is nothing to do with processing times and the timescale for getting documents to them. It is a question of whether you were negligent in not informing the airline about the loss.

loads of companys do this, like when buying tickets or mags online they auto tick 'pass on details to other companies' when you've had to refresh the page for whatever reason.
