Our local libray has a PS3 in it of all things, and the kids get to go down there and play Fifa in half hour sessions, now thats a waste of money!

Because of all the current hysteria around facebook and it's security, I take it you fail to realise that kids as young as 8 if I remember correctly can go in there online without supervision. That website in one way or another can pose a danger so it's a good idea to be blocked in a public place. Fair enough if parents allow them on it at home, but it's another excuse for suing if something did happen to them because of it.

Libraries are a source of information, if you want information on the government there are plenty other websites out there other than facebook and youtube.
From what you've said I don't think you care about the voting, you just want to be able to access facebook and youtube in a library and are trying to find a way around it.

Cool you have a PS3, extremely popular machine! Yes i am trying to at least get some bandwith allowance and a site for some gaming while i find stuff out, gets terribly boring just looking at council sites and blocked pages from websense.

I think you're going a little OTT with you apparent blocked websites. I can quite easily get on Easyjet, Ryanair (as I only use the library to print boarding passes), and I know there are ways around getting on msn. Like for instance using Meebo.

The only way your idea would work is to have a login for every library member in which they could customise their settings and blocked sites. Would you let an 11 year old child go down the library to go on facebook unsupervised?

Of course, i do not think a child of 11 has friends to abuse her, they would all be school friends etc.

Nobody thought a girl who had a friend of 17 on their facebook friends was going to be lured to a field, strangled, raped then killed but it happened.

!!!!!philes will go to any length to groom children, facebook is a major outlet for it recently. The bans are there for a reason. If you want to go on facebook, youtube or whichever other social networking sites then get home internet access.

If it was my child who was 11, they would only have friends who they knew in real life, facebook is safe. Feel sorry for the girl involved there, in libraries parents are usually with kids online, its quite safe.

In my library, I've never been in and seen parents supervising children whilst online.

If for any reason your ban on facebook was lifted and something happened because of a child having unsupervised access on facebook because of your desires to use it for political information (when we all know it's not really for that) how would you handle the backlash? Would you insist every child under 16 was supervised when in the library just so you can access facebook? Or just leave the rules as it is and accept that it's for the safety of members.

This will be my last post to you as your being awkward.

    1. My library DOES allow facebook, period, i am raging against the filter and regular blockage that the filter (web sense or web nonsense as i call it) does to facebook and the applications/games link that is on all facebook pages, which does not have sexually explicit, banned, rude or any other public dangers on its link, OK?

    2. I don't have desires for political information, period.

The title of the thread implies you should be allowed access to the websites because of the election. When in actual fact you want it to play on games. So the title of your thread is pointless!
